vernment of tJie United States, we are since informed, was

F-ar.ce in Philadelphia, on Mr. Dupont’s arrival from this

ho nquelted an exequatur for his successor, Mr. Dupont,
nd a passport tor himfelf to leave America,.
No answer having been given to this letter, Mr. letomb,
accompanied by Mr. Dupont, had a conference with the
fSecretary of State, who informed them, that the Pretidenc
of die United States had directed him to inform them,
verballv, that he had determined not to receive or acknow
ledge any new Agent from the Republic of France, until
he had received definitive accounts from our Envoys in
France, relpe&ing tlieir negotiation; and l* added, that
he was requested to fay to Mr. Letomb, that it was the
PrefiJeut’s orders that he fliould not attempt to exercise
any of his Consular fundions without Dave from the Pre-

tering for, or paying a bond given by John Hunpon, of
Washington, in Wilkes county, for the sum of 920 dol

ral bank-of the river, (exdunVe of 25 feet thoroughfare
and lanes) with a good road from Savannah to the pre
nrifes nearly completed. The filiations of these lots art?
well -known, and conlidertd at prelent increasing in value,
as being at the head of navigation for all (hipping drawing
more than i2 feet water; ttKy are like wife well situated
for trade, building of stores for the reception of produce,
and particularly adapted for carrying on the lumber Lirii
nefe; also capable of improvement at a small cxiienee, the
bank of the river running generally from 20 to 40 fee t off
tire channel, and fufficiently firm in its pretent state to
admit of large vcffels taking on board their cargoes without
the aid of a wharf. On tl.e premises tlrere are now a
good wharf 100 feet front, and deep enough, wMiin
ten feet of the head, for the large ft vtffels tl.e river will
admit; also a dwtllinghoufe, ttfni house, poultry house,
and a gar-fen; all under good fence, as delcribctl in tbc
survey. The intention of the fnblcriber, bv allowing the
great distance back from the river, is to give fufficierttlpflite
for carrying on bnlinefs, erecting of buddings, and making
gardens, the being foltd, remarkably ri(R, aud kilobit
by experience to be good fi>r th<* puipofe. For the.further

the depth of water opposite each lot, in the hands of ML.
