The appointments which took place in Oiftober last, to fill
vacancies, are: William Steplicns, George Walton, Ab
raham Jackson, Peter Early, Thomas Peter Carnes, and
John Springer, who, as well as the former 1 ruftees, are
earnestly requested to be punctual in their attendance, at
Augusta, on tlie said ift of July next.

been stolen, viz.
1 dozen figured handkerchiefs, 15 yards blue cotton ca
lico, 14 yards ditto, 9 blue check handkerchiefs, 1 3-4
yard blue striped lilk and cotton ftuff, 2 pair tailors duck
trowfers.
The owner is defin’d to prove the property, pay charges,
and take them away, within thirty days, otherwise they
.will be fold for the benefit of the County.

Efqrs. have made application to me for letters of
administration on the estate and efftdls of Theodore Gay,
late of Savannah, (hopkeeper, deceased, These are there
fore to cite and admoniih all and singular the kindred and
creditors of the..laid deceased to be and appear before me,
at my office in Savannah, on tlie 20th day of July next, to
fliew cause, if any they have, why letters of administration
should not lie granted them.

Governor (Hid Commander in Chief of the Army and
Naw of this State, and of the Militia thereof,
A PRO Ci A M A TIO N.
WHEREAS I have received information from the
Mayor of the City of Savannah that certain Ne
groes or people of color are (hipped off from Port au Prince,
in the Weft Indies, for the ports of South Carolina and
Georgia, and many of them are on board vessels bound di
re£Uy to Savannah: AND WHEREAS policy didlatcs
that persons of color, used to tlie horrid feenes of niaflhere
which of late years have been so barbaroutly praflifed in*
tlie Weft Indies, without refpeft to age or sex, should he
prevented from coming within the limits of this state, to
diffufe their seditious and cmel tenets, and the a£l entitled,
“ An Adt to organize the Militia in the several New
Counties of this State,” makes it the duty of the Officers
of Militia in the firft Brigade of the firft Division, in their
reipedlive diftridls, to apprcliend any Negro, Muftee, Mu
latto freeman or freemen, Have or Haves, who thall here
after arrive in any port of this state from tlie Weft India
or Bahama Iffands, and to keep such persons in fufe custody
until they can be examined before the Corporation of Sa
vannah, or any three Juftict-sof the Peace for any count y
in the said division, who are authorized to cause such per
sons to be exported at the expence of the importer or own
er,’ whb are also made liable for the expence of apprehending
them: Taking the fame therefore, and the lituation of the
present state of public affairs, and our local concerns, into *
my moft serious deliberation, I HAVE THOUGHT
FIT to iffiue this my proclamation, hereby charging and
requiring all. Officers,’ Civil and Military, to be aftive and
vigilant, within their refpedlive diftridls, in preventing and
opposing any of the people of color, deferibed by. the afore
laid law, paft’ed the twenty-second day of February, one
thousand (even hundred and ninety-fix, from landing within
any port or place within this state; and in case of fiich
landing, that the. Militia of the diftnifl where such landing
may be, and tliofe of any other diftridV into which such
persons may come, do immediately pursue and apprcliend
them, and all of them, in order that they may be exported
agreeably to law: And I further charge and require the
different Magistrates of diftriifts, and Captains of compa
nies, to lie vigilant and aiftive in having the Patrol Law
fully enforced, without any excuse whatever, as they will
answer the contrary at their peril: And I call on all daffies
of citizens to come forward with cheerfulnefs and perform
those duties which the fitnation of public and domestic af
fairs requires ot them: And I also further charge and require
all Officers, Civil and Military, to be vigilant in appre
hending and exporting all and every other Negro, Muftee,
Mulatto freeman or freemen, (lave or slaves, who has or
may have come within the limits of this state, under the
defeription aforefaid, lince the-passing of the afore-menti
oned law of the twenty-second of February, one thousand
seven hundred and ninety-fix, in any manner or wav what
ever; and to keep a watchful eye over all and every suspi
cious stave or slaves, free Negroes or Malattoes, although
not within the defcripiien of the said law.
GIVEN under my hand, and the great seal of the
said state, at the State House in Louifyille, .this
eleventh day of June, in the year one thousand
seven hundred and ninety-eight, and in the
twenty-second year of the Independence of the
United States of'America.

in St. Philip’s parith, on Great Ogechee river, bounded by
Zettler’s land, containing 4yp acres, seized under execution
as the property of Thomas Lee, deceaied.
