Returns, fome persons names have been returned that
not 21 years of age, and thus not liable to peri’onal tax,
such as it may concern will please to call at my office, and
their names shall be erased from the lift of Defaulters.
EXTRACTS from the TAX LAWS. ‘
u And be it further enacled, That the Receivers of
Tax Returns (hall, in thirty days after publifLing the names
of Defaulters, proceed to and ajfefs all such Defaulters, in
a sum equal, according to the best of his opinion, to the full
amount of the tax of such Defaulters, which said afleffment
lha!! be deemed and held good against such Defaulters; And
the Collector lhall proceed against Inch Defaulters for double
tbs amount of the said afleftment in manner pointed out by
the said lax Act of 1797 for proceeding against Defaulters: *
Provided that, if any Defaulter, so alTtfled, shall, at any
time before the ColleSlor ihall levy for the fame, make re
turn, upon oath, before the Recencr, of his or her taxable
(4-dollars per arm.)
property, the said afleflinent shall be considered void, and
the CollcShr lhall confider the returns as the proper charge,
against luch Defaulters.
* 44 And be it further enadted, That every person or
persons refilling or negleAing to give ir. a lift of his, her, or
bileir taxable property, &c. lhall forfeit and pay, for every
such ncglcit, the sum of one dollar for every free male a
bove the age of twenty-one years, and the sum of one dollar
for every Negro; the sum of eighty cents on every hundred
dollars value of every lot, wharf, or other lands, &c.”
“ And whereas divers persons, non rest dents of this state,
import large quantities of goods, wares, and merchandise,
and evade the payment of taxes, by not being in the slate
at the time usually preferibed tor making returns for taxes,
for remedy whereof, be it enabled, That any non resident,
who shall expose to sale any goods in this state, shall, on
his arrival, or within seven davs after entering the fame,
make return on oath, to theßeceiver t of Taxable Returfts,
and give security to the Tax Colledtyr to pay the fame on
or before the time preferibed for paying taxes imposed by
this ait.”

WHEREAS Robert Fraser and Henry Kennedy, of
the city of Savannah, carpenters, have made ap
plication to me for letters of administration on the estate
and effects oi James Duncan, late of Savannah, carpenter*
deceased, 1 heie are therefore to cite, and admonilh all and
fmgular the kindred and creditors of the said deceased to be
and appear before me, at my office, on the 28th day of
September next, to lhew cause (if any they have) why fet
ters of administration fliould not be granted them.
