I Cj” As it may have happened that, from the Militia
Returns, fome peri'ons names have been returned that are
not 21 years of age, and thus not liable to personal tax,
such as it may concern will please to call at my office, and
their names shall be erased from the lift of Defaulters*
EXTRACTS from the TAX LAWS.
“ And be it further entitled, That the Receivers of
Tax Returns shall, in thirty days after publift.ing thenames
of Defaulters, proceed to and ajfeft all such Defaulters, in
a sum equal, according to the best of his opinion, to the full
amount of the tax of luch Defaulters, whieh said assessment
shall be deemed and held good against such Defaulters: And
the Colleßor shall proceed against such Defaulters for double
the amount of the said afTeffbent in manner pointed out by
the said lax Act of 1797 for proceeding against Defaulters: *
Provided that, if any Defaulter, so afTefTcd, Hull, at any
time before the Colleßor shall levy for the fame, make re
turn, upon oath, before the Receiver , of his or her taxable
property, the said afteffment shall be conftdcred void, and.
the L oitiElor shall confider the returns as the proper charge
against such Defaulters* ’
* “ And be it further enabled, That every person or
persons refilling o 1 neglecting to give in a lift of his, her, or
tfteir taxable property, &c. shall forfeit and pay, for every
such negieft, the sum of oris dollar for every free male a
- the age of twenty-one years, and the sum of one dollar
for every Negro; the sum of eighty cents on every hundred
dollars value of every lot, wharf, or other lands, &c.”
__ M And whereas divers persons, non residents of this state,
import large quantities of goods, wares, and merchandise,
and evade the payment of taxes, by not being in the state
at the time usually preferibed for making returns for taxes,
for remedy whereas, be it enabled, 1 hat anv non resident,
who IbaH expose to sale any goods in this state, shall, on
his arrival, or within (even days after entering the fame,
make return on oath, to tie Receiver of Taxable Returns ,
and give feconty to the Tax Collector to pay the fame on
(4 dollars per ann.)

plication to me for letters of administration on the estate
and effefts of James Duncan, late of Savannah, carpenter,
deceased, These are therefore to cite and admonish all and
Angular the kindred and creditors of the said deceased to be
and appear before me, at my office, on the 28th day of
September next, to Ihew cause (if any they have) why let
ters of administration Ihould not be granted them.
