OUR French papers are replete with articles indicating
the fpcedy renewal nf.hnflilities between Auflria and
France, and of-the- fonottioH -of -a -powerful coalition a*,
gainfl that devaluating Republic. The world has long fecit
the overbearing arrogance and ambition of the French Di

give them a severe check. If the nations unite their forces,
•aft heart in hand, and, when they put their hand to the
plough, swear they will not look back, we may augur that
the ebb time of the French w ill be as rapid as their flood.
Their conduft in Switzerland has cemented xhe resentment
and abhorrence of all nations, and evCry oration to Heaven

be heard and answered. L_.

Baltimore , Augujl 24. Arrived this day, the Swedish
barque Resolution, Capt. G.fmaf Keftenius, from Naples
and Leghorn,- lafl from Malaga, 58 da vs.
Capt. Keftenius, who left Alalaga tiie isl of July, has
politely favored us with the following intelligence, corro
borative of former accounts: That in the beginning of
June, in his paflage from Naples to Malaga, he fell in
with Buonaparte’s fleet, going up the Mediterranean, with
a number of troops on board, bound, it was for
the Crimea; that, while at Malaga, he learns they had
been fallen in’with by Admiral Nelson, who took FOUR
of the number, but what force had not been afeertained;
and that the fleet had* been dispersed, and put back into
Corsica and Leghorn: That the French had n< Ugot ]>er
miffion to march through Spain to attack Portugal, as re
ported:, That a peace was daily expefted between England
and Spain; but that the French Bill continue to aft as they
please in the ports of the latter: That about 30 Americans
and Danes were condemned at-Mttkiga while lie lay there
by the French Con fill without the form of a trial, and that
as many more would Ihortly meet the lame fate; of the
Americans he does not know the names of any: That the
French take and condemn even* American they come aero is
in the Mediterranean, be they bJsund where they may.
Cant. Keftenius saw no Britifli Force off Cadi z, and out
one frigate off Gibraltar; from which circumflance it is
probable Admiral Jervis has gene up the Mediterranean to
rr e account-of Buonaparte.

Richmond , Augujl 21. It is a fact, which our fri er A
in this country ought to contemplate with attention, ; w
the duties on the merchant fliips and goods particular •
taken by* the French and confilcated would have brcu"h t
into the public coffers monies enough to have rendered
d’recl tax unneceflary! Let the advocates of French vik
lanies, and the oppofers of arming ourveflels, think of this’
and despise the men who have deceived them.
