Mr. W IT. Poller,
Det- Sir—You expressed t with that I
-ould give a concise statement of my soft'ar-
ings, from ■ tbe hopeless commencement, to
the present propitious stage of my disease.’
About five yean ago, on my passage from
Hordeanx, during the month of January, from
imprudent exposure on deck, I was aeixed
with a violent fever. Having no medical cv
tendants on board, I was compelled to bear
it, as I might for two weeks, when on my ar
rival at Charleston, S, C. it waa treated aa
Typhus. The skill of my Physician subdued
the fever, but Phcenix-like, the termination
of this gave ris- to a disease equally distress
ing, and which, till now, I had thought incur,
able. Various abaeeaaea made their unwel
come appearance, particularly on the jointa,
which were swelled to an enormous ata- .—
These gradually subsided into hard tumors,
one of which on my left knee affected tlte
bone—an incision was now made and a large
evacuation of nut, mixed with pieces of bone
took place. In addition to this, I suffered the
most excruciating painain my j unta that man
ever experienced. Every tiling that was
administered either gave me no relief or ser
ved to aggravate the disease, the severity of
which increased with every succeeding year.
Such wsa my painful li-.uatlon that I despaired
of ever being restored to my heal-h ; lhad
not only tried the regular means of relief,
but used, though in vain, every popular rem
edy 1 coaid hear of- It waa in this awful and
desponding condition, that I was persuaded to
ommence a course of your Vegetable Cathni-
on, and the happy result is, ”/ om the use
of the I we bottles my -whole system has under
gone a complete revo ution, viy pains have fit-sa
ke i me,." the discharge from my knee began
.o dimmish, and soon ceased altogether, the
ulcer from whence it proceeded being com
plelely healed. The tumors, for the removal
of which I have tried in vain more remedies
than 1 can name, are rapidly decreasing ; my
appetite, which was gone, nss returned—I am
in fact, nearly well, snd feel confident that a
few bottles more of your, (to me) invaluable
medicine, will make me prrlectly to.
