Dear Sir—You expressed a wish that I
would gives concise statement uf my sulf.r
ings, from ‘ the hopeless commencement, to
the present propitious stage uf my disease.'
About five years ago, on my passage from
Bordeaux, during the month of January, from
imprudent exposure on deck, I was seixed
with x violent fever. Hxving no medical at
tendants on board, I was compelled to bear
it, as I m<ght for two weeks, when on my ar
rival at Charleston, 8. C. it was treated as
!’> phus. The skill of my Physician subdut d
the fever, but Hhamix-like, the termination
nf this gave rise ton di rase equally distress'
ing, tnd which, till now, I had iiionght incut-
ole. Various abscesses made their unwel
come appearance, particularly on the joints,
which were swe led to an enormous size.—
These g'aditally subsided into hard tumors,
one of which on my left knee effected the
bone—an incision was now made und a large
evacuation of pus, mixed with pieces of hone
took place. In addition to this, 1 suffered the
moat excruciating pains in my joints that man
ever experienced. Every tiling that was
administered either gave me no reliefer ser
ved to aggravate the disease, the severity nf
which increased with every succeeding year,
duel) wai my painful si uation that I Je paired
of ever being restored to my heal It i I had
not only tried the tegular means nf relief,
hut used, though in vain, every popular rem.

ulcer from hence it proceeded being com
plelely healed. The tumors, for the removal
of which I have tried in vain more remedies
than I can name, are rapidly decreasing ; my
appetite, which wai gone, has returned—I an
