Mr. W W. Potter,
Dear Sir—You expressed a wish th^t 1
would give a concise statement of my suffor
ings, from * the hopeless commencement. t r
the prerent propitious stage of my disease'
About five years ago, on my passage from
Uordeftux, during the month of January, from
imprudent exposure on deck, 1 was seized
with a violent fever. Having no medical at
tendants on board, I was compelled to bear
it* as I m g'it for two weeks, when on my ar
rival at Charleston, S. G. it was treated as
Typhus. I he skill of my Physician snbdu- d

of this gave rit r - to a disease equally distress
ing* and which, till now, I had ttn ugbt incu'-*

some appearance* particularly on the joints,
which were twe led to an enormous 8»z':.—
These g adoally subsided into hat’d tumois,
one of which on my left knee affected the
bone—nn incision was now made aim a large
evacuation of mis, mixed with pieces of bone
look place. In addition to this, I suffered the
most excruciating pains in my j tints that man
ever experienced. Every tiling that was
administered either gave me no relief r ser
ved to aggravate the disease, the seventy of
wh’rh incr .used with every succeeding year.
Snob was -ny painful si uation that 1 despaired
ot ever being restored to my heal h ; I had
not ody tried the tegular mean** of relief,

of which I have tried in vain more remedies
than 1 can name, are rapidly decreasing f my
