Dear Sir—You expressed a wish that I
would give a concise atvtomeht of my suffer
ing* from * the hopeless commencement, to
the present propitious stage of my diae.se.’
About five years ago, on my passage from
Bordau* during the month of January, from
imprudent exposure on deck, I wa* seized
with a violent fever. Having no medical at
tendants on bostd, I was compelled to bear
it, as I might for two wak* when on my ar
rival at Charleston, 8. C. it wu treated at
Typbu* The skiD of my Physician subdue d
the fever, but Phanix-like, toe termination
of tbia gave rite toe disease equally distrea-
ing, and which, till now, I had Un tight incur,
able. Various ahacosa made their unwel
come apparxitee, particularly on the joints,
which were swelled to an enormous size.—
These gradually subsided into bard tumor*
one of which on my left knee affected the
bone—an incilion was now made and a large
evacuation of pu* mixed with pieeva of bone
took place. In addition to this, I suffered tbe
mosteaerueialingpainain my joint! that man
ever experienced. Every thing that was
sdministered either gave me no relief or ser
ved to aggravate the Jiseasr, tbe severity of
which increased with every succeeding year.

of ever being restored to my heal hi I had
not only tried the regular mans of relief,
hut uied, tbougit in vain, every popular rem
edy 1 could hear of- It wu in this awful and
