Extracts of letters received ill this city, dated
“LIVERPOOL, Oct. 4.—The continued com
mercial failures of an alarming character, both ns
to number and amount, havo greatly increased
Uie panic in tho money market aud the general
distrust since the departure of the lost steamer.—
The pressure and dorangoment in monetary affsirs

of extreme depression.
“In giving quotations of Cotton in our last cir

been sold, all to consumers, speculation being en
tirely suspended, and the quantity pressing ou

MOBILE, Ort. 20.—Cotton.—Our last review
left Uie market in a very unsettled condition, with
such a wide discrepancy between Uie views of

ed by Uie disastrous iutelligenco from Unropo by

Wednesday and Thursday of tho commercial weu

Tilling previous to the reception of tho foreign
advices, and holders refused tho concession. Oi
Friday Uio latter partially gave way, nnd somo
:tnu bales of middlings changed hands at 9 a 9jc.—
On Suturdny nothing was dorto—buyers doclin

sellers refusing to meet their victvs. On Monday

400 bales, wore sold nt 9c., which in tho present
stato of the market is Uio oxtreino price for that
description of cotton. As we closo, Uiero is
more disposition on the part of holders to meet

At Uie time of making up our last report the
Cotton Market had aguin assumed a lkir degree
of activity, as buyers were disposed to come for
ward more freely at the material reduction which
holders bad boen compelled to submit lo, und
which we stated to be ftilly 2 of a cent per lb
since the receipt oftho European accounts ny the
Hibernia. On SaturdayfUiere was ugain a fliir in
quiry, and sales to the extent of about 3300 bales
were effected, at prices which did not vary materi
ally from those curront on Friduy. On Monday
the doniand slackened somewhat, though still sonic
2500 bales were disposed of, at rather cosier
rates, and yesterday uio sales were 2500 bales ;
making a total for tnroo daysof 8300 bales, taken
for England, Franco and tlio Nortit. The great
difficulty iu Exchange negotiations, produced by
Uie heavy failures in Europe, already known, and

further disastrous occounts oftho samo character;
together with n continued scarcity of vessels, and
an accumulating stock, hove nocossarily given the
few buyers somo ftirther advantage, and wo have
ugain to note a dcclino of fully nn 1 of a cunt, par

Middling and Good Middling tradition being
most in request, nnd consequently better suslain-
