Allow mo to call your attention to one bfthe great

It Is not my intention to tux you with a long and

city of Savannah, whore 1 reside, and many from
your own State, where tho Medicine isiueed with
neat find astonishing success; it has proved itself
to be superior to imy other Medicine for the enre
of Fever aud Agile, whicli it will do in the very
short space of Twelve Hours, it lias never been
known to fai I to efl’ect a certain enre. Tho Med
icine is a harmless nnd tasteless one, which will
moke it the most pomilai'Medicineihthe Southern

paration whatever, but is a harmless Vegetable
matter only. To Planters, this Medicine is a val
uable preparation, as it cures all coses in twelve
honrs, and does not require anv time to be lost; all
that is tp be done is to take the Jledicine and to go
to work. T® the Rice Planter it is a valuable Med
icine, as it does not contain any mercurial or min
eral preparation whatever, and is therefore a safe
Medicine for those who ore liable to exposure. 1
begyou. do not let me have to tax you so often with
advertisements,{certificates, See. It has already
proved itself to bewhat I say it is, and the greatest
proof is every body is recommending it to be^he
only certain and speedy cure for the Fever and
Ague. AU you have to do is to ask your neighbor
want he thinks of Humphreys’ Remedy for Fever
and Ague, aud ofcourse, to be convinced, you will
try it, at least ! hope so. Here is my offer to any
Planter of South Carolina, who will either call on
Doet. P. M. Cohen,of Charieston, S. C. or myself,
in the city of Savannah, and either of us will give
enough lor twelve cases, and if it does uot cure ten
ont of twelve, we will reftind tho amount paid for
it. r-Yodr are to see the Medicine tnkou os 1 huve

Owing to the heavy rains during the past sum
mer, nud which still ’continue, all the low land*
ore under wuter, which will cause a great ileal of
this disease on the llice Plantations; it will be to

This prepnrajiou, (by adding tho Queen s De

perfect degreo than any known remedy, tonic
and alterative powors, nud is highly recommend
ed by eminent physicittus. It is prepared in con

H. R. Frost, Professor of Materia Medica lutlio

on Materia Medico, only concentrated by o pro

There are few cases of chronic and painful
Rheumatism tliut will not yield to the influence of
Sarsaparilla and Queen’s’Delight if duly prese

Is highly recommended for all diseases of the

in most instances, effectually remove all pimples,
postules or blotches on the 'face, to which young
persons in this clima.e are ko much subjected to,
arising either from ' .ipurity of the blood or de

cutaueoits affections it is invaluable. As a gen

obstinate diseases, this preparation will undoubt
edly take the precedence of all other remedies, ft
gently operates upon und regulates the bowels,
restores to the blood its wonted purity, gives lone
to tho stomach, and promotes digestion.
It will effectually relieve Erysipelas even in its

Fairbanks Platform Scales.—It iu not often that
wo ore induced to laud nn article of trade, and
wo never do unless perfectly satisfied that we aro
commending something that is useful. Wo can
not consent to gratify the cupidity of an indivi
dual, at the risk of imposing tho confident of
thousands of our readers who rely upon Hie hon-
osty of our statements, if not in the infulibility of
our juduiunt. That great improvements have
been made within a few years, m the instrument*
of weighing merchandise, is a fuel familiar to busi
ness men. Tlio uutinue clumsy and inaccurate
methods of weighing, have given way to the in
vention of Auiericau mechanical skill/and the ut
most precision lias been attained. A variety of
Platform Balances are manufactured and used,
which cannot be relied on lor any considerable
degree of accuracy: so that they necessarily in-
volvo ono parly iu pecuniary ,• loss. It therefore
affords u * pleasure to refer to tlio Platform Seales
nfAJr. Fnirbnuk, which have been extensively
used in all parts of the United States for several
years, and given, ns far as onr knowiedged ox-
lends, very general satisfaction. We purchased
one of these scales throe years since, and have us
ed them constantly for weighing paper, Ac. aud
fornccnracy and durability, wo tiro quite sure,
they have not, nnd pcrimps cannot, he surpassed.
Tho plan of construct'd.! is philosophical nail
simple. Tho employment of two levers, with n
single boxin, ic certainly the most practicable, in
a compound platform balance. Any increase of
the number of levers or on additional beam, ren
ders the instrument more complicated, less precise
in its operation nud more liable to derangement.
Those scales nro used by marfy of the leading
mercliunts ofNew York, whose written testimony
to their funcricr excellence ha* been freely ac
corded to tho manufacturers. june 9

1817,1 wwLvingittthowosteiu part or tins State
pursuing tU occupation of a farmer. Oue day
while chopping mjhe woods, I foolishly chopped
my foot lio&riyW, instead or the tree. During
this misfortune f Employed Iriyrelfin perusing the
fragiueutleavo* ofan old volume, printed in Eag
land Mine luindred yoara ago. Among tiiese
scattered leave* 1 rend ofan herb which had betyi
analyzed by some of England’s ancient Alclm-
mists, shewing properties uud qualities never be
fore fomul iu any plant that was ever discovered.
This one herb, aider tlio force oftho Retort
and Crucible, developed more than ten distinct
properties. This fact struck my mind fo forcibly,
that it was impossible to get rid’of it. Something
Fcomod to tell me that Providence, whose special
care is extended towards all hi* creatures, had
never concentrated into one small herb so many
medicinal qualities, us various uud ns complicated,
although perfectly identical as the human blood,
without a wise and good purpose. Here was^to
be found thu aoids, tile alkalis, the oils, the watt*;
the air, the suits, thu soda, Ac., all combined, con
centrated, and chemically united into ouu single
element of power, farming u substance more al
lied and iu afiiuity-to the human blood than was
ever before discovered in the works of nnture.
Laboring under these impressions for several
years, I became uneasy, discontented, and un
willing to coutiuc tuyself luugcr to tin* duties of a
farmer.
Eveiy tiling seemed to point my mind to one
object, viz.: tlio preparation of this herb into a
medicine. 1 then determined to return to the city
of N. Yoik. I did so, and immediately inquired
for the herb. It was not to be found. 1 then
sent to Europe aud there found it under another
name.
Having prepared tho article to my satisfaction,
I gave it uwuy to all who would lire it. Hun
dreds, l might say thousand*, took- it into their
families und used it: some for one thing and
some for another, and all from the very lint to
the very last, pronounced it of uurivuled excel
lence uud power.
Tiie first case tliut come under my observation,
was a man that had lost tho use of hi.* arm for
some years. Tho Ointment restored his arm
completely iu a few days. This surprised me a*
in ion as it did tlio patient. After him there tame
a nun with sore eyes produced by gunpowder—a
very bad case indeed. One box only sitliicicd to
make a perfect cure. And 1 would’here remark
that hundreds have been .cured of tore eyes,
who never found any relief but in this Oint
ment.
There next rauio a wonnn who was suffering
excruciating pain from the ague in tho face.—
Her physician (thinking it the toothache.) had
extracted eleven of her teeth. Hitt the dtUiculty
still remained as bad ns ever.’ The Application
of the All Healing Ointment was attended with
immediate cessation of pain. Her face however,
began to swell, and the surface wa* covered over
with pimple* of eruption like prickly heat. In
one day all this disappeared. About the same
time, a lady made application with it for the
headache of long standing, ami a foiling of the
hair. Tho Ointment cu.ed her # headache, ami
restored her hair. Since tlii*, I liave known the
Ointment to cure case* often, twenty and fortv
years standing. I hesitate not to say. that it is
almost an infallible remedy for this cotuplaiut.
About this time there were two cases, one of
Consumption, and the other of Scrofula, which
had baffled the skill of every physician who pres
cribed. It was wonderful to witness the effect of
the Ointment on these persons. No one would
believe it unless they had perron-illy witnessed if.
But it did tlio work properly. There wa* no half
way business,-for they recovered their health in a
few months. •* * /
Rheumatism, Fever,Quiuzy, Sore Throat, Cu
taneous Eruption*, diseases of the Spine, uud
Nervous Complaints were treated with unheard
of success. Butin Chest diseases, such as Asth
ma, pain and onpresrion, I beliove there is no bet
ter remedy. Afro, the common diseases, such as
Ulcer Sores, Scald Head, Humors of the Skin,
Inflammation, Piles, Sore Eyes, Sprains, Bruises,
and Burns, it seems to be u perfect antidote.—
People would come into tho store smiling, wish
ing to know if I was really tho Seventh Son, or
whether the Ointment tliut I gave them was indeed
idl-heulingin it* nature. For said they, not oue
single application Inn failed to cure.
Liver Complaint, particularly, was treated with
great and.universal succoss.
If produced such good results in all c.aroa that it
has been noised abroad, and 1 was otfored sums of
money for a receipt to make it for private use
merely. Every man Hpoku well of it, n* it lmd
done so much good.
Not witli..taudiug all, I have been careful not to
recommend it, except in cases I knew it would do
good. I was never willing to lend myself to any
thing without first testing it* merit*. 'Thi* I en
deavor to do on every occasion, and wlien I acted
a* one of the Sick Committee iu the Lodge of I.
O. of O. F. I then tested it upon Brothers in the
most critical conditions, aud had abundant oppor
Utility of proving it* worth.
And. iuconclii.-inn, I would remark that I have
placed this Ointment before the people oftho U.
States during tlio last nine or twelve months, and
so general ha* been the satisfaction, and so great
amount of good done, tiiat more than half it mill
ion of boxes h ive already been sold. I do really
believe there never was a medicine which gained
.such widespread, universal and unanimous satis
faction a.* tue All-Healing Ointment. From all
parts of the land there have come up one deep,
sincere and universal voice of approbation saying
“McAlister thy longue liutit dropped the word of
truth und love, while health forever ulicud.s thy

winter of 183-1. and the day after I had a hard day a
work lifting and moving log*. I was taken wi>!i a
violent pain iu my hack and loin*, nnd the day
following with a total suppression or stoppage of
urine. [I wa* then a citizen of Jones comity,
Ga.] I immediately culled in a physician of great
emiuencc nnd distinction ; for thirty-six hour.* I
suffered as much, to all appearance, a* it was
possible for human nature to endure, nnd at last
found relief only hy the help of the catheter. I
applied then to several eminent physician* both
in Baldwin nud Jones, without recci\*iug any ben
efit other than a temporary relief, for my com
plaint would every two or three days return, nnd
the catheter was my only helper, in 18J? I re
moved to this county, and brought with me my
tormenting complaint and my friendly catheter.—
Here, a* there, 1 applied to the nio*t’ skillful phy
sician.*, as I thought, and here, as there, 1 rocei’v-
ed no benefit from thorn.'. In Soplemher 1842,
after having suffered at time.* the most excrucia
ting pain* lor eight years aud nine month*, and
after having spent a great deal of money (•*! l«a*t
$500) on doctor.* during the time, I was induced
to try Dr. M. S. Thomson, of Macon, and though
I entertained the uio-U violent prejudice to his
mode of practice, my necessity compelled me to
go, fori had then boon confined to my house foy

stated iu)' case to him, and he gave me medicine.
Iu half an hour after taking hi.* first dose, I felt that
case, and had that free ami copiou* discharge of
urine which 1 had not felt or hail iu utmost nine
years. And from that time to this present day,
March 20th, 1847, I huve had no return ofniy

t ie use of the mcdiciiie several month*. Since
then I take nothing for it. I cat,- drink, sleep,
