NEWS FROM SPAIN.
[from the Constitutional.]
The following ia an extract from the
Pounleoux Journal, the Indicator the 1st.
February.
“The number of the insurgent troops is
much more considerable than was at first
announced.
"It is now said ihat there are from 15
to 1600ft men occupying the Islenl Leon,
n here they are fortifying themselves. It
is added, that they are abundantly provi
ded with provissions and money.
“Gen. FieVIVi had not yet put himaelf
in march against them on the 17th. The
fear of a defection on the part of his troops
|f appears to retain him at Seville. This
fear, is not, perhaps destitute of founda
tion, if it he true, as we are assured, that
in a first rencontre the Royal' Arlillerv
hail ranged itself on the side of the mal-
c intents.
"Gvncjal Frevre has atldreaaed, in flip
name of the King, a proclamation to the
insurgent troops, in which an amnesty ia
oft'ered them. The General of the mal-
Cohtgnts, to whom it was addressed, com
municated it to his troops—not a single
man wished 10 take advantage of it.”

"Every instantCouriersfroni Andalusia
arrive at Madrid. The inhabitants of that
e.ipital dare write nothing which relates to
l passing events.—This silence, /»/ order,
* confirms the opinion that the Constitution-
nl forces are formidable. It appears cer
tain that the King lias applied to England
for assistance. The artillery of Frevre
has gone to the independents. On the
night of the 17th, that Genera! had not
Inf' Seville, afraid that his troops might
pass over on the other side. The insurrec
tion consolidates—there are great, nt-
inours of an assembly of the Cortes, &c.
We hope, before lung, to he able to give
arnne positive accounts, although the or
ders to stop all such at the frontiers are
strictly executed.”
We have received, bv a letter from Ca
di/. of the 19th January, the following de
tails; (hey confirm fully the preceding uc-
cntinis, and add ne«r documents of the
highest importance,
“ The insurgent troops amount to 85,-
000 men; they form the flower of the Span
ish army. Every day new reinfnrcementa
arrive Pom all points of Andalusia, where
t'.ie troops destined for. the expedition be-
vot't! seas, are quartered. The soldiers
shew themselves enthusiastic supporters
of a constitutional order of tilings—their
Tallying cry is, "the Constitution amt the

Notwithstanding this, O’Donnell advanc-

rines from the fort protecting Cadiz, in
order to |frolnrt his fleet, leaving the in
habitants and what few troops are in
Cadiz, and which have been sent by wa

which, in the opinion of everv one, is on

a favorable opportunity to jmo their com

are disposed to he of the same mind.—
Whether the Admiral intends to go out
with the fleet or not, in order to preserve
it. until he sees which party is successful
or what his determination is respecting it,
no one as yet knows. The prevailing
opinion again is. that no harm whatever
is intended to any one bv the Revolu

opposition. They merely, it. is said, in

it was framed by the Cortes during the pe

Which ever way these troubles may end
it is very generally believed that the ex

being now interrupted in its usual route
goes by svntei to Avamonte, a town near
Portugal, where it is conveyed, through
Badajoz to Madrid. This retards letters

gift of 100,000 florins, Ins Majesty lias
repaired in person to several of ihe places
most in distress. On tlie 26th he went
to Gtielders whence most alarming news
had been received. On the 27tli he re
turned to the Hague, and immediately
set out again for Leyden, accompanied
by the Prince of Orange and Prince. Fred

caused by the inundations and the burst

are under water. In many places entire,
houses and all their inhabitants have been
swept away.”
On Friday night between seven 5ceight

in the gaol effected their escape by making
a hole through the wall of an inner room
into the yard. An iron bar belonging to
a gate lying in the yard was found in the
