moreor loan marred with typographical errors; and
while for nor own part wo doubt not our rcadora are
annoyed r by them, we most cordially hate, detest,
IbominaU and despise thoih. They are like moth in
a mantle, vermin in a house, thorns on a rose, and
wjon the sun. Like the visits of a fool, they are
aCya repugnant; like a spoiled child, thev are sure

likened to anything in which tho little evil preponder
ates to the great detriment, If not total ruin of the
good. Assuredly are they tho bane of an editor a
happiness; the froeUen of his intention, and the per-
verters of bia meaning. Hideous realities they are,
staring him In waking hours from almost every arti
cle of composition; and at night like hydra-headed
nightmare they go riding poll-moll through his
brain, laden with murdered autbography, mangled
etymology, suffering syntax, gasping prosody, and a
stiff dead corpse of common sense meaning. Owing
to them editors incur the complaints of readers, the
threatening denouncements of contributors, and the
pain of seeing in their own composition distorted
abortions, where the had hoped for reason and taste
to appear. These errors are ubiquitous In appear
ance, and consistent in hideousneHS; equally deplora
ble and unconquerable.
Lot readers possess sympathy with editors In their
afflictions,—rather than ceusure what their best ef
forts cannot entirely overcomo: while they thank
their stars they are not " typosSomerset mug.
Nearly one hundred merchants and Arms doing
business In Bangor, Maine, have pnblishod a card,
with their names attached, in which they say they
will not patronize any vessel, or the master of any
vessel, who is known to smuggle liquors of any kind
into that city.
Walter Taylor, the forger of Pen slon papers In
Connecticut, who was sentenced to ten years in the

just been convicted at Hartford on a second similar
charge' and sentenced to five years longer imprison

gives her comfort, for, at every fresh birth she hears
of, she says to herself, “ Well, the seven years at least

The money market continues active, and with little change
in tho rates. There is a good demand on call at 7 V cent,
which ia fretly met, and thu street rates for prime paper
from 9 to 12 V 4- The banks, while by no means taking
all the offerings, are yet discounting to a fair extent.
The bids for fivo hundred thousand dollars of fl por cent
bonds of the 8tato of North Carolina were opened yesterday
afternoon, at tho Bank of the itepubllo. The bonds were
awarded to Francis S. Lyon, commissioner of Alabama, at 3
per cent premium, who takes them as an investment of the
funds of the Bauk of Alabama, held in trust for the debt of
the State, due la 1803, so that the bonds will not coma on
tha market in ten years. A higher bill was offered for a
portion of the bonds, but Mr. Lyon’s bid, which was for th
whole or none, was the moat favorable Cor the whole amount®
Tho previous issue of those bonds were dlsposod of at 106,
but thore is considerable difference in the state of the money
;'rkqt, at tho time of the first issue and now.
The now bank clearing house will, go into operation op

ber was 80.424.698, of which $4,171,698 was gold, $1,210,000
silver, and $3,100 copper.

12 wore gold. 6,602,000 silver, and 316,000, copper.
The gmd depoits were $3,026,000 against $4,264,000 in
September, 1852.- The sliver deposits amounted to $320,-
600.
The return as published in tho Philadelphia papers of this
morning make no mention of moment of the preparation of,

Rev. Dr. Bellows’ (Dnf^arianl Society are laying

the yellow fever, to deliver, gratis, ice to all who
might apply for it to be used in cases of sickness.
Another Revolutionary Patriot Gone—Wm.
Clark,of Westfield, N. J. r died on Wednesday last,
in bis 98th vear. He was a prisoner at ou time in the
Old Sugar House.
The telegraph reports that Klssano has boon con-
victad. The Cincinnati papers have been greatly oc
cupied for some time past in narrating tho iugenious
attempts to procure the escape of this man. lie was
a principal in tho celebrated “ Martha Washington ”
frauds.
Tho museum iff Lowell, Mass., was destroyed by
fire on tho 30th. The museum nnd theatrical proper
ties were owned by J. A. Hildreth and John T. Cues-
ley, vplued at $6,000, and were uninsured. Tho bull-
’ ding was fully insured.
George Lake has been tried ot Ponghkcopslo, and
found guilty of tho murder of his wife nnd two chil
dren. The crimo was committed on the 7th of Juuo
last. Insanity was pleaded In vain.

GixUuiUius Belief tn Indigent Persons.
T HE public are respectfully informed that the Faculty
of the Savannah Medical College havo ojamed at the
College building, a Dispensary for tiio purpose of affording
Medical and Surgical aid to indigent persons who may
stand in need of it. Advice and Medicine will be turnisbed
gratuitously to all who apply.
Any person who may hnvo been first prescribed Toy at
the Dispensary, nnd wbo may afterward* become too sick,
to come to the College, will bo attended at his or her resi
dence, if desired.
All cases of Surgery which may bo presented and may
require It. will be operated upon at the College, and alter-
wards attended at their residences.
The Dispensary hours will be from nine to ten o’clock
every morning.
Tiffs arrangement, being a part of the system for clinical
instruction for students, will be permanent, and the Dis
pensary will bo attended by two of the Faculty, in rotation,
every month during the year.
