The habotui corpus case of deputy Marshals Jenkins
and Grassier, arrested last week, on the charge of as*
sanlt and battery on Bill Thomas, a fugitive arrested
by them at Wilkesbarre, was called np In tbo Clronit
Court to-day. Judge Grier said he would not allow
Lawyer Brown, emplyed by tho AbolUlouista to come
into Court as a private prosecutor, and interfere with
tbo officers of the Government in the execution of
their duties.
Mr. Brown OBkcd \t U was to be understood that no
irivate prosecution could bo represented by counsel
n proceeding against officers or tne Government.
Judge Grier replied that the 1 Court would not bo
questioned by any. person.!. * -■
Mr. Ashrae ad Asked the discharge of the officers.
Judge Grier replied that It must be shown first that
they wero acting by authority.
Commissioner Ingraham certified to tho iBsning of
the warrant, and tho Marshal certified to having sent
deputies to execute tho warrant.
IJoputy Wynkoop testified to witnessing tho resist
ance made by tho fugitive to tho deputies under ar
rest.
Mr. Aabmcad again asked for their discharge.

cision and deliver it on Saturday next.
Terrible Explosion nml Loss of Life.
Philadelphia, Oct. 12.
A terrible explosion occarried this morning at the
Navy Yard. The boiler on tho sectional dock burst
while tho Bloop-of-war Cyane was being bauid up,
scattering tho fragments in every direction. Tho
safety valve was thrown 300 feot npon the steamer
Fulton. The bead of tlie boiler was damaged next to
the section, •
There was but 80 lbs. pressure on tho boiler though
warranted to stand 100 lbs. Tho rigging of the Cyauo
was cut into fragments. Durant Hatch, a workman,
alongside, had bis skull fractured by a fragment of
iron, nnd is supposed to bo fatally injured. John O’
Brien waa Bcalded and 1b not expected to recover.—
Both of .the above were taken to the hospital. Michael
Maguire, who was standing at the head of the boilor,
was dreadfully cut and scalded. He was blown over
board, but afterwards rescued, lticbard Kennedy,
tho engineer, who was standing on tho boiler house,
waa thrown overboard and slightly injured. Several
Bailors wero alBO Blightiy burnt.
The Calder 'Extradition Can.
Washington, Oct. 12.
The Union contains an official opinion from the
Attorney General, in regard to tho caso of William
Calder, arising in Now York under the cx-tradltlon
clause of the treaty between this country nud Great
Britain.
He says tho President has no authority to reviso
the action of Justice Edmonds, or to order tho de
