But to tllti' Rtilb Ru^fclndcrs,,,In December
1864, under tho.BpcoiouB hamo cf "a People’s
Ticket,” the citizens of Bftvunniih'voro appeal*
edto to come to' their Support, without re*
gftrd t»» party} tliat It was n great movement
for contlnu|ng the reforms of 1864. The Bn*
vahnah UepubHciiii In announcing the Ticket,
on the 2d Doc. 1854, said tlmt It was cotnpoEod
of. "6o/A IPAigt ami' Democrat*,aud that it
had been liamicd In at a Into hour the evening
previous. It also said tbnt It had taken the
trouble to make “some InquIHedV^bout the .in
dividuals who were placed in nomination, and
that they would “servo If elected.”
Many Democrats, from tho purest motlvos in
the world, wero seduced by so lair a propoBi*
tlon, little drenmlug of tho black and deliber
ate (laud that was being perpetrated upon
them—little dreamiug that a ticket which op
pealed to them upon such honorable grounds
was tho hatching of a secrcct midnight Know
Nothing Lodge. They had little idea that
whllo they claimed the honest suffrages of
Democrats, they were sworn to give uo man
anything of plunder except one of tho initiated.
Thoy would have been startled if they lmd
known that if Mr. Buchanan or Gen. Casa bad
beeu citizens of Savannah, and voted for the
Ruledtesoinders, it would, have been impossible
for those distinguished gentlemen to have re
ceived the berth of city scavenger or countable,
no matter how insignificant their opponents
might be.
Democrats w’ero duped. They did not be
lieve that such an organization as Know Noth
ings existed. We ourselves did not believe it.
We had heard of such a thing, but looked upon
it us the creation of lads *, in fact, in the light
of the “owl clubs,” etc., which we have seen
advertised.
If the Republican duds any pleasure in allu
ding to those days by-gone, we will furnish It
with sorno reminiscences, which it would np’
pear to most persons had bettor be lost sight
of. We are prepared to prove that the whol©
affair was a fraud, and our strongest testimo
ny shall be drawn from the columns of the
Savannah Republican.
\We do not know how tho gentleman who
has been^singled out from all the rest voted,
never having asked him ; but ouo thing wo do
kuow, that tho celebrated, renowned, distin
guished and ever-to-be-remembered Rule-Re—
scinders of ’55 were elected by the support of
Democrats, who were caught in a contemptible
trap. And another thing wo may venture to
assert is, that if they be forgiven for it upon
this remarkable occasion, the hook will have to
be baited in future with a skill we lmvo never
yet seen to catch them again.

Unfortunate Remlnlscensea,
The Republican of Tuesday morning, in
commenting upon the speech of Mr. Ward on
Monday night, has delivered itself as follows;
"Mr. W. deprecated divisions, and told ns there
were some Democrats who talked about kick
ing out of harness at the next election. Very
likely. He could not understand what sort of
Democrats they were—while, if reports be true,
he should have known from experience, as it is
generally understood that he kicked out him
self two years ago.”
We humbly conceive .that the journal of
Americanism in this city has transgressed the
bounds of propriety. The editor of that paper
cannot possibly know of hit own knowledge,
a9 to how any gentleman cost his individual
vote. Public men are.tobe judged by their
public aclt, and no paper lias a right to in
vade the sanctity of private action. If any De
mocrats in 1854 chose to vote for the present
Mayor, aud the board which the Republican
will distinctly and feelingly remember as the
renowned Rule Rescinding Board of ’65, they
were at liberty to exercise that right, and no
one is justified in dragging them before the
public upon what must be at best “hearsay ter
thnony." If they had had any connection
with the nomination of Mr. Anderson and the
rule-rcsciuders of ’65—if they had gone to their
meetings, or if they had had any concert even
among themselves, a mention of the fact in
the editorial way would have been fair and
proper. As the matter now stands, it savors of
execrably bad taste.
As that remarkable election, and tho support
which was given to the Rule Rescinders by
a number of Democrat*, has been broached,
a little of the private history connected with
it, may be. instructive. We are able ;to speak
feelingly on the subject.
The very able City Administration of 1854,
composed entirely ot Democrats, instituted and
inaugurated many highly important measures
of reform, uot the least of which was the re
organization of the City Police and its establish
raent upon its present efficient footing. What
seemed most to characterize their aotion as
praiseworthy, (according to our idea at that
time,) was a strong disposition shown by that
Board to relax the strict rule, before-existing,
or Party in City Matters. In this spirit th«
present chief of Police, his 2d Lieu tenant,(aj that
time) and a number of the.privates were taken
from the ranks of the opposition.
Tho Board of 1854 have had' just cause to
we the generosity with which they acted.--
That organization, the child-of its creation,
with a total want of filialaffection, has been
ever since the most bitter enemy that the Pe-
mocracy have ever had in this city; it is now a
mammoth engine of political power, for which
the citizens of Savannah have the privilege of
paying over $40,000 a year, a majority of whom
have to submit to lUJuae to cut their own poll-
tioal throats with.

Florida. Indians.—A correspondent of tho
Philadelphia Ledger, writing from Camp Och-
lawaha under date of August 20, among other
things, lms the following:
“One old soldier 1 aceidoutiy met with the
other duy said that tho Indians did not fear
any one cf tho officers who lmd ever beeu hero
but old llaruey. When Col. Hurney was here,
he treated them witli su much severity, tlmt
tho Indian women to this duy, Bcuro their chil
dren by tolling them that they will give them
to old Hurney.
“For my part, from what 1 have seen of this
country, l firmly believe tlmt the Indians can
euter into any hammock aud remniu there
till the resurrection day, if they are not driven
out by hounds. Some of these hammocks can
never bo penetrated by white meu.”
“Old” Harney, above mentioned, is a gal
lant general of our army, who may have seen,
not to exceed, perhaps, fifty-three ycurs. He
is a native of Nashville, Tctin., and was an
especial protege and friend of Gen. Juckson.
The writer above speaks of the “fear” of Har-
uey, by the Indians, Upon the Florida peuiii*
suln. He might have said further, that there
is not an Indian of any tribe on the continent
that does uot kuow aud stand in especial awe
of him. Ho lms but just reduced the powerfu

Florida. We knew him well years ago, ami
veuture to say that the conduct of affairs being
leftto iiis judgment aud discretion, he will
rid the country of the Indians, and that, too,
without the aid of “hounds.” He lms a way
peculiarly his own of settling all Iudian difli-
culties, and it is probably tills fact which bat
led the Executive to couiide to him the sccm-

iugly herculean tusk of “concluding” this

DRS. LEFLEIl St WILCOX, Dentlata.
ARE now fUUy prepared to in
sort full or nurtial setts of Teeth
on tho principle of Dr. J. Alions’s
Patent Continuous Gum, By this
improvement, the form of tho fuco can bo restored to
auy degree of rotundity that may bo desired. Ills
applicable in all coses where tho oheekBhavo fallen
iu and cannot bo detected by iho closest observer.—
This method combines tho following* lvnntigcs:—
Au urtillciul gum, which exhibits a perfectly natural
and life-like appearance, and imparts to tho theoth
that peculiar expression which characterizes the na
tural orguus.
This Gum consists of a silaeious compound, which
la applied and fused upon the Tooth and Piute in such
a manner, us to fill up all tho interstices around the
baso of tho Teeth, aud also unites them firmly to
each other and to the Plate upon which thoy aro
sett. This secures perfect cleanliness of the Teeth, „
