Ail Ordinance to increase the salary of tho Hoalth
Officer of tbe City of Savannah, and fix hfa foea
for boarding vessels und for giving a certificate
of health or permit to come to the city and dis-
charge their loads, and for oilier purposes:
Whereas, from tho increased commerce or tbe
Port or (Savannah the duties of tho Health Officer
are greatly Increased, and the salary has not been
Increased during tho fast thirty years :
Sec. 1. Be it ordained by tho Mayor and Alder
men of tho City of Savannah and the Hamlets thore-
or In Council as embied, and it is hereby ordained
by the authority or tbo same, That from and after
the passage or this Ordinance the salary‘oT the
Health Officer be at tho rate of flvo hundred dol
lars.
Sec. 2. Bo ll further ordained by tbe Mayor and
Aldermen or tho City or Savannah and tbe Hamlets
thereof in Council assembled, and Ufa hereby or
dained by authority of tho same, That the foes of
the Health Officer (which shall he paid by the
owner, master, or couslgnco or any vessel) shall
be as follows:
For boarding any vessel lying at the quarantine
ground, at Fort Jackson, two centa a ton up to 600
tons, beyond which no additional foe shall be
charged. In cue of a vilit at night tho foes charged
shall t>e double the proceeding; and all expenses
inonrred for boarding any vessel shall be paid hr
the Health Officer, except that tho city will furnish
a quarantine boat.
For visiting and inspecting a vessel which has
been subjected to quarantine, and giving a permit
to come up to the city, five dollars.
8eo. 8. Be it farther ordained by the authority
aforesaid, That In case it shall be deemod necessary
by tbo Health Officer to send a patient to tbe Pest
House from the vessel, It tball bo dono by tho
vessoi’s boat, or at the oxpense of the owner, nw*
ter or consignee or such vessel, under a penally, lu
ca3o of failuro or rcfusul, or nut oxceedlng one hun
dred dollars, to be collected iu tho usuul manner as
prescribed bv urdiusneo.
