the parties uow in arms in the territory attempt
to resist the civil and military authorities in the
measures now proposed, it will be Gen. Smith’ll

forces in the territory.
Nothing but decisive action of this kiud will
be of any avail. Almost every man in the ter
ritory is armed for self-defence. Business is
neglected, and it is only by the adoption of the
most stringent measures, by the restoration of
law and order, by the punishment of the numer
ous bands of horse thieves, murderers and plan-
hear that this has been'done.* *

At a Kansas meeting held at this place on
the 16tb Sept., Mr. Alexander C. Scott, was
called to the chnir, and A. S. Atkinson request
ed to act Secretary.
In response to inquires of the chair, asking
an explanation of the object of tiro meeting,
Capt. D. S. Clinch, offered the following resolu
tions
me ago for the purpose of testing one of
Sarren s Fire and Waterproof Room. Noth-
ig could have convinced os, but being an ac-
ual eye-witness of the success of this trial that
ny roof would withstand the very severe test
ppliea on this occasion. A small house pre-

ings, and prove by their subscriptions* that
Georgia is earnest about maintaining the rights
of her people In Kansas.
Gen. Wm. Smith then offered the following
amendment to tho first resolutiogs, which af
ter being accepted, tiie resolutions were unani
mously adopted:
Resolved, That a subscription list be opened
forthwith in this place, for the reception of
subscription, and that tho same he paid over to
the chair in3tauter.

ceedings of a Kansas meeting held in Jefferson-
tou, Camden connty, on the 16th this mouth.
Although the meeting was small, there was
paid into the Chairman, under Gen. Smith’s
resolution, near two hundred dollars; and I
think, after the meeting on Thursday next,
Camden will make yon a pretty decent show
ing.

sassinations at which the heart sickens, and
which have become so common in theso days of
enormity, was committed in this county on the
26th ult.
The victims were A. E. Moore, Esq., his
