Thu couipauy is ontiroly out ol debt, uud has due
to it by roiiuoiu stockholders, about $ 39,000, which
will doubtless bo paid us tbu Hoard of Managers muy
cull it iu. It is also un recipient uuder ‘the roceut
gram ofl,.nils made by Congress, Uihoy can bo bud
uloug tho Hue, which is believed lo bu thu case, of
neany 4u0,000 ucresot laud.
The road cuuuouts with and is au extension ol
tho Vickburg and Jackson Railroad, completed aud
iufull operation to tbu Mississippi river at Vickburg;
opposite which city, iu Louislaua, commeuces thu
Vicksburg, Sbrovenpurt and Texas Railroad, now
under contract for Us whole distance aud In rapid
progress of construction. It intersects the New
Orleans und Jackson. Groat Northern Railway at
Jackaou, and through that at Canton, connoote with
the Mississippi Central Railway, tbo iron of which
1* now buhi*: laid to Holly Springs. It Intersect*
with tho Mobilo and • Uio Railroad, as already stat
ed, near Marion, and it* polut of intersection meets
with tho North-eastern aud Southwestern Rallrouu
lu Alabama, aud through that unites with tho roads
In Virginia, Touucasoe and North Carolina. Ills
also an indispensable liuk In tho lino of Railways
that aro to unite Charleston and Savannah, through
Montgomery. Vicksburg, fihrovenport uud El Paso,
with the Paoifio Ocean running its entire length on
the same parallel of latitude with those places. It
is thus obvious that this Uuo of work is ono or the
mo.4 important unfinished enterprises In tho coun
try. It is thorough Nationul in its character: for
U unites Maine and Now Urleaus, aud tho Atlantic
and tho Mississippi, by indissoluablo bonds. But
Whilst thus National, it appeuls especially for aid to
Southern men aud Southern enterprise, for when
completed, with tho intermediate gap in Alabama,
(twill, with its connections, now built and being
built, run right through tho heart of thoso great
Southern cotton-growing Stutes, Louisiana, Missis
sippl, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, and
unites tho great inlaud sea with tbo broad ocean.
These facts are stated to cull attention to tills line
of road aud to Induce capitalists and contractors, to
ombark liberally in its construction, fho tifteou
miles of completed Railroad, with its equipmouts
and sixty valuable slaves, mnny of them mechanics,
is a bonus from tho State or Mississippi; tbo publio
land has been donated by Congress ; and it is, per
haps* not greatly ovor-estlmating tho present pro
perty ofthe roau to pul it at or near ono million of
dollars in which sum future stockholders who may
bocomo such by direct subscription or moaoy or
work, will beat onco equally interested. It will
thus be seen that this road present* peculiar in
ducements to men of moans to engugo lu its con
struction.
