progress or construction. It Intersects the New
Orleans uud Jackson, Great Northern Railway at
Jackson, and through that atCauton, connects with
the UlswUslppl Central Railway, the Iron of which
is uow befog laid to Holly Springs. It intersects
with tho Mobilo and Ohio Railroad, as already stat
ed, near Marion, aud ita polut of intersection meets
with tbo Not tb-castorn aud Southwestern Railroad
in Alabama, and through that unites with the roads
iu Virginia. Tennessee and North Carolina. It is
also an Indispensable link lu tho lino or Railways
that aro to unite Ohai losion and Savannah, through
Montgomery. Vicksburg, Bhrevenport and Kl Paso,
with the Pacific Ocean running its entire length on
tbesamo parotid of latitudo with theso places. It
Is thus obvious that this lino or work is ono or the
moit important unfinished enterprises In the coun
try. it is thorough National lu Us character: for
U unites Maine and New Orleans, and tho Atlantic
and tho Mississippi, by indissoluablo bonds. But
whilst thus National, it appeals especially for aid to
Southern meu and goutborn enterprise, for when
completed, with tho intermediate gap in Alabama,
it will, with Us conuoctious, now oultt and being
built, run right Uironglt the heart of those great
Southern cotton-growing States, Louisiana, MIbsIh
sippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, and
uulios tbo great Inland sea with the broad ocuan.
Thoso facts arc stated to coll attention to this lino
of road and to induce capitalists and contractors, to
embark liberally In Its construction, the fifteen
miles of completed Railroad, with Us equipments
and sixty valuable slaves, mnny of them mechanics,
isabouus from the State or Mississippi; tho public
land has been donated by Congress ; and It Is, per-
hup3, not greatly over-estimating tho present pro
perty oftheroadto put It at or near one million or
dollars . In which sum futuro stockholders who may
become inch by diroct subscription or moaoy or
work, will beat onco oqually IntercsteU. U will
thus be fleen that this road presents peculiar In
ducements to men of moons to engugo in Its con
struction.
