Marion, in Lauderdale county; and pasdes through
the counties or Rankin. Scott and Newton. The
liuo is over a nigh rolling country, well watered
aud timbered,and in point orhealiutulness,ooonom
icul living, Ac., i* equal to tho most fevored
portions of the Carolina* and Georgia. The grading,
except for tiro first twenty miles is generally light;
and upon the most of the sections the excavation
and embankment alternate favorably; tho excep
tions being lu the two heaviest outs. Tho material
I* ufacharacter easily moved, the growth of the
country affords abundance of timber suitable for
bridging and cross-tlca; aud Ills believed that no
work offers, in facilities for construction, greater
Inducement*to contractors, especially those using
negro labor.
Tho company Is entirely out of debt, and has due
to It by rellaolo stockholders, about $;<30,000, which
willdoubtlesB be paid as tbo Board of Managers may

The road contracts with and is on extension or
the Vickburg and Jackson Railroad, completed and
In full operation to the Mississippi river at Vickburg;
opposite which city, in Louisiana, commences tho
Vicksburg, Shrevcnport and Texas Railroad, now
under contract for Its whole distance aud in rapid
progress or construction. It lntcrseots the New
irleans and Jacluou, Great Northern Railway at
Jackton, and through that at Canton, connect! with
the Mississippi Coutral Railway, the iron or which
is now beiug laid to Holly Springs. It Intersects
with theMobilo and t-hlo Railroad, as already stat
ed, near Marion, aud Its point of Intersection meets
with tho North-eastern aud 8outhwestern Railroad
In Alabama, and through that unites with tho roods
in Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina. It U
also au indispensable link in the lino or Railways
that aro to unite Charleston aud fiavunuuh, through
Montgomery. Vicksburg, Sbrevenport and El Paso,
with the Pacific Ocean running its entire length on
tbesame parallel of latitude with those places. It
is thus obvious that Ibis line or work is ono or the
mort important unfinished enterprises in the coun
try. It is thorough National in its character: for
U unites Maine and Now Orleans, and the Atlantic
and the Mississippi, by Indissoluablo bonds. But
whilst thu* Notioual, it appeals especially for aid to
Southern men and Southern enterprise, for when
completed, with tho Intermediate gap in Alabama,

sippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, and
unites the great inland sea with tbo broad ocean.
Those facts are stated to call attention to this line
of road gad to induce capitalists aud contractors, to
embark liberally In its construction, the fifteen
miles or completed Railroad, with its equipmouts
aud sixty valuable slaves, mnny of them mechanics,
is a bonus from the Stato of Mississippi; the public
land has been donated by Congress ; and It is, per
haps, not greatly over-estimating the present pro
perty oftho road to put ft at or noar one million or
dollar* in which Bumfuturo stockholders who may
become such by direct subscription of moaoy or
work, will beat once equally interested, It will
thus be seen that this road prosents peculiar in
