that the Ruccessof tho association would bo such
us to exceed the most sanguine expectations of
its friends. The classes had not yet been pro
perly set.to work, only four having been start
ed—one for the study of the Greek Testament,
one for rhetoric, and two forvocul music. With
regard to the finances of the association, the re
port stated that tho oxpenso of fitting up the
rooms in Rhenshaw street, had been very con
siderable. Tho disbursements were, therefore,
heavier this year tbau they were likely to lie
again. The Board were huppy to acknowledge
several very liberal contributions, which had
liccn given to the association, and they were
persuaded that the means for carrying ou their
work would not be withheld.
It was exceedingly desirable that they should
have a permanent revomie of £250 or £300 a
year, to enable them to exteud their missionary
operations, and to meot the fluctuations iu the
membership which wore unavoidoble in ail
young men's societies. They had at present 2ii

After a discussion, the mover uml seconder

The Rev. F. A. West proposed “That this

in Augunt, 1855: Tiie Young Men’s Christian

The Chairman briefly addressed the assem.

which had come before thorn.
Mr. John K. Leylsnd, the honorary secrets,

from, various cause a the year nod been one of
great anxiety and t ill, liutthcre had been am

luence of the association generally, and the
spiritual blessings In particular whleh hod been
vouchsafed. The board ot management ac
knowledged the hearty exoneration they bad
received from all those Christian Mends from
whom they bad solicited assistance in various
ways. A very deep debt of gratitude waa due
to those gentlemen who, at the commencement
of the present year, kindly undertook the office
of troateos of tho association, to enable tho
board to open the present rooms In Benahaw
street. It was a matter of thankfulness that
the names of T. B. Horsfall, Esq., M. P., John
Cropper, Charles Groves, Thomas Matheson,
and John Torr, Esquires, were enrolled as the
trustees of the association. The thanks of tho
association wore also duo to tho Ears. Dr. Bay-

• A letter received from Leon by a gentleman
in this city, written by a uative of this couutry
residing there, gives a deplorable picture of the
state of afikin there. The three powers are in
mutual conflict, aud whatever is done by one is
sure to be disapproved by the others. As they
ouch claim to bo supreme, this produces a ra
ther awkward state of affairs. While Bellosa,
the San .-alvador Chief, is acknowledged to he
the generalissimo of the allied forces, his au
thority is merely nominal, the other leaders
obeying his orders only when it suits them.
Tho Leoneso troops claim the right of assem
bling only when they deem it necessary, aud
the people are beginning to grumble sadly at
the uecessity of supporting the stranger sol
diers, aud the consequence is that provisions
ure becoming senree, and the troops of iheir
allies ure beginning to sutler from wopt of
food. Tho material result is that desertions
are becoming more frequent, and this, with the
ravago* of disease, is rapidly thinniug their
ranks.
The cabinet and Rivas are also at logger-
heads. They can agree upon uo settled line of
policy, and from the daily increasing want of
resources, they find themselves nearly ut their
wit's end. The capture and execution of Sala
zar creuted a profound sensation of fear among
ail classes in Leon, nnd the Government had
authorized Geu. Jerez to purchase a vessel,
which he did from an Italian company, and the
vessel Is now lying in the harbor of llealejo.
I should like to know how long it would remain
in their possesion if the Granda happed t>como
acre ' her, outside of Realtjo.
A courier had arrived at Leon from tbo vil
lage of Sornoto, with intelligence that the peo-
>le there had risen aud murdered Jose Maria
Ustrada, Pedro Joaquin Chamorro, Gen. An-
ustin Hernandez and others of their party.
Jhe first named was tho Chamorista candidate
for the Presidency, and with him falls their
pretensions as a party.
Mr. Sonlehas purchased tho rich hacienda
of Mr. Blercedes, near Naiodaime, which for
merly belonged to Fruto Chamorro, the Servile
President of the Republic, against whose
haughty manners aud tyrannical actions tho
iople rose under CastUion, who invited Gea.
.'afker to his assistance. The hacienda is oue
of the riohest and most beautiful in the country,
and the consideration paid by Mr. Boole, I un
derstand, is $50,000. It ia well w orth tho
money, and under the energetic superinten
dence of Mr. Soule, will soon become what it
once was, one of the most productive estates in
the country.
Mend you copies of the decrees, to whioh I
referred in my last, relative to the transfer oi'
tho property of the late Accessory
Transit Company to Mvssrs Garrisons
Morgan. It Beams that the old Company were
indebted to the State of Nicaragua in a sum
exceeding $300,000, and as the company have
for the last six mouths either abandoned its
property or attempted to place it in the power
of the enemies of the State, tho whole or their
moveable property within the limits of the
State has been confiscated. The mortgage to
Messrs. Garrison & Morgan turns out to be a
veritable sale of all the property seized hy the
State for $400,000.
Col. Thos. F. Fisher, the Quartermaster Ge
