Whereas, from the increased commerce of the
port or Savannah the duties of Iho Health Officer
has greatly increased, and the salary has not bec„
creased during tho last thirty years:
1*50. 1. Be it ordained by tho Flayer und Alder
men of the City of Savannah and tho Hamlets there
in in Council us einbicd, and it is hereby ordained
by tbo authority or the same, That from aud after
tho passage of this Ordiuaiico the salary of tho
Healih Officer be at the rate of live hundred dol
lar*,
Sec. 2. Be it furthor ordained by tbe Mayor and
Aldermen oftho City olSavannah and tho Hamlets
thereof in Council assembled, and it is hereby or
dained by authority of tho samo, That tho foes of
the Health Officer (which shall be puld by tbo
owner, master, or consignee of auy vessel) shall
bo as follow*:
For boarding any vessel lying at tho quarantine
ground, at Fort Jackson, two cents a tou up to 600
tonB, boyond which na additional fee shall be
charged. Ia case of a visit at night tho fees charged
shall oo double tho proceed ug; and ull expenses
Incurred for hoarding any vessel shall be paid by
tbo Health Officer, except that tho city will furnish
a quarantine boat.
For visiting and inspecting a vessel wbicli has
boen subjected to quarautino, and giving a permit
to como up to tho city, five dollars.
Sec. 3. Bo it farther ordained by tbo authority
aforosaid, That in caao it shall bo deemed nocossary
by tho Hoalth Officer to send a patient lo tho I’est
Houso from tbe vessel, it frball bo dono by the
vessel’s boat, or at tho oxpeuso or the owner, moa-
ter or consignee of such vessel, under a penahy, iu
case of failure or refusal, of not oxcee.Hug ono hun
dred dollars, to bo collected in tiio usual manner as
proscribed by ordinance.
