. The Leading Presses of the North.
Since the election hu passed away, and the
excltemontproceding and consequent upon that
all-important OTont is dying away, some solicDt
pointi of remark developed in the course of
the oonteut furnish material for instruction.
Prom none may we derive more than the con-
diet of somo of the leading presses ol the
North.
Of tho Now York Doily Tribune and the
Times, the former edited by that infamous
creature Oreelcy, and the latter by the Lieu
tenant Governor of the great State of New
York, Hr. Haymond, it is not necessary to say
mneh. The Tilt abuse, villiOcation and license
of theee sheets disgraces this and exceeds any
other age or which we have any knowledge.
Living for a great portion of the political
campaign upon lies, manufactured principally
in these two offices, of the wrongs of “bleed
ing Kansu,” and the wounds on Hr. gunner's
hired, they have come forward wlthasancti-
monkma nndaolty in what is, or ongbt to be,the
moot Intelligent community in the Union, nod
claimed for themselves purity and patriot,
lam, not one particle ofwhloh any sane man
would ever adJedge them. If these two joor-
nala represent any considerable portion of the
dtp of New York, we should be inclined to
think that the tone of society was ata vety low
point. We are not disposed to think that they
do, if the verdict of the people of that city, u
shown by tho election, is any indication; and
that they are only dangerous in communities
where they are not well known.
Of that remarkable Nows Paper the Now
York Herald, wc have a word to say. From
the fact of its nnvaryiog advocacy of the righto
of tho South, it had established, itself in the
favor of the Southern people. Tho change
therefore wu startliog, because unexpected.
Having |n immense circulation, and being paw
excellence the best Newt Paper in the United
Statu, it was considered to have power to work
inconceivable , mischief. The reasons of the
apostasy have bun ascribed to the touching
of “tho pocket nervo,” assisted by a personal
pique against President Pierce for not making
Hr. Bonnet Its editor, Minister to Franco. How*
ever this miky be, the course which it hu pur-
sued is moot wonderful to think of. Itlsalmost
impossible to say whether it did Col. Fremont
most harm or good. Its vacillation; drat in
flating the friends of that individual, and the
next day giving up his cause as lost, have left
u in doubt if the editor wu most a knave or a
lunatic-
The conclusion of tho whole thing, however,
is moot amusing. The Herald no doubt wu
aware that it bad not aoted in good faith to
wards its candidate, and so to make a large
payment in poor coin, nominates him for the
election in 1800. One thing is certain, the
Herald hu almost entirely lost its sway over
the pnbiic mind, and it formerly bad vary great
If we pass by merely political journals, our
eye can rest with pleasure upon on* which hu
entitled Itself to the luting consideration of
tho whole country, and particularly the South,
Wo mean theNew York Journal of Commerce.
Its noble advocacy of oar cause, from motives
purely of a patriotic desire to do right, and
point oat to its readers tho right path, will give
it a reputation founded In truth and rectitude,
which wiU enrvlve the shouts and huzzas of a
mob, upon which most of the journals at the
North expect to live.
We, as an organ of the Demootatlo party of
Georgia, tender to that paper our sincere thanks
and gratitude, and recommend it to every
Southern man.
Democratic Rejoicing In Bibb.
We observe that our friends in Bibb county
are making preparations fora great rejoioing
over tho recent victory of the Democratic party.
It will come off on next Wednesday evening,
with a torchlight procession, and all the vari
ous accompaniments or a great pnbiic jubilee.
Well can the freemen of this country indulge
in the interchange of' congratulations, for a
victory indeed have they won—over every ism
which the corruption of the North has engen
dered. '
Tfse Pioneer of Use Season.
We observe by the Macon Press a most
extraordinary circnmstmce. " Mine beet"
of tho Lanier Houso lias had a shad already
upon bis table. This member of the finny
tribe la early in bis visits to our waters ;
we should like to know whether he came
from the North by rail or not. In this age
of Improvement, perhaps the spirit or pro-
grewihu oven infected tho family of flsli. if

all told, and four small guns. Vidaurri wu
BhelliDg thetown of Camargo yesterday, hav
ing Just received a mortar from Monterey.
The artillery is in charge of E. Jordan, from

man. His shot from the mortar worked beau
tifully, and knooked the booses about the ears
of the Camargo folks. *We could see tho houses
tumble from the camp.
They have completed the boats, and only
await tho arrival or Saragoosa, with the addi

day before yesterday, who have gone out to
meet Saragossa.
When Vidaurri starts his intentions are to
