of oer Indian traders: The French Indians have cut off all
. the polls and battoes between Niagara and Detroit, and it's
generally believed that Detroit is cut off alfo.~J am doubt
ful of the cqnfequcncc.—We have an account of one Evert
Wendell being killed, and John Wendell mortally wound
ed $ they were attacked 40 miles above Niagara, having 9
battoes and 31 men, out of which number only SI are re
turned to-Niagaraj they were attacked the ad inst. Lieut.
Cuyler, with 100 men, was attacked the 28th ult. within
50 miles of Detroit, and has only.brought to Niagara 30 of
the number.
Yerterday a detachment of the train of artillery embarked
for Albany, and a few days before part of the 17 th regi
ment failed for the fame place.

England the 29th of April last from France.

By the Boston papers totke 20th or June, we learn, that
CoL Montague Wilmot of the 43 th regiment, is appointed
Lieutenant Governor of Nova-Scotia, and that Robert
Temple, Esq; is appointed by the Surveyor General, Col
lector of his Majcfty's Customs at New-York, in the room
of the Hon. Archibald Kennedy, Esq; deceased. ’

An Indian war seems unavoidable: We hear of fealpieg
and murdering every day, and we all now appear convinced
of the ufefulnefs of the 20 regular battalions to be stationed
in North-America. —The piece for which Mr. Wilkes was
sent to the Tower is upon his Majesty’s fpcech at the close
of the feflion, and is perhaps the molt impudent thing-ever
printed ? 9
John Stuart, Esq; his Supefintendaat of the
southern diftr ft, has sent off expresses to all the Indians in
the said diftrift, inviting their headmen to the cougrefs
with the southern Governors at Augulta, which will be o
pened on the 15 th daV of Oftober next.
July 9. Letters from New-York, which mention the
late outrages committed by the Indians, fay, that many
nations are supposed to be concerned. *

the price rose to 555. and to-day none of the agents for the
planters will fell under 60s.
Yerterday a vessel was let out to freight at 325. per ton,
for Bristol, Poole or Gofport.
SAVANNAH, July 2*.
ON Saturday the 16th ink. at night, a gentleman com
ing from the ferry, was attacked, noar Little Ogc
chec bridge, by live negroes, who endeavoured to lay hold
of his hoife’s bridle; but being provided with a good hic
kory Hick, with which he knocked down two of them, and
disabled the others, he got back fafe to the ferry that night.
Some time lince a sailor was set upon about the lame place
by negroes, who, after beating him, robbed hhn ol 20s.
and made off.
Ycflcrday arrived at Tybee, the brigantine
Gottcnburgh Merchant, Capt. William Colbcck, from
Lifboq, for Beaufort, for which place Ihe got a pilot and
failed next day. The Sunday before Ihe went into Midway
in company with the brigantine Midway, Capt. Peacock,
from one of the out-ports of England, and a lchooncr from
New-England.
