The steamship Rhine,. which sailed
hence for Bremen on tbe 2d inst., when

has just been received from Pensacola,
Florida:
“Memorandum mado with pencil by a
irt of the crew of the British ship Lil
lian, lost 15th January, 1871, off the
coast of Brazil, was picked up in the
Gulf of Mexico. •
“It may be a hoax, but if not, it is of
so mnch importance that I thought best
to send it for publication.

January 21st, 1871.
“This is to certify that we three are
the only survivors of the British ship
Lillian, lost on the night of the liith of
this month. We have now been drifting
in an open boat for six days, suffering
hunger, thirst, and hardships which none
but those who have experienced them
can illustrate. We have been looking
out for a Bail since the ship went down.
Wind became of the captain and the rest
of the men God only can tell.

Montoomeby, September 5.—Tbe great
Industrial Exposition of the Alabama
Agricultural and Mechanical Association
will open October 31st, and olose Novem
ber the 1th, instead of tbe timo hereto
fore announced. Twenty thousand dol
lars is offered in prizes for improvements
in all the departments of Agriculture,
Mechanic arts, Manufactures, Ac. Com
petition is open to Alabama and the
world. Preparations are going on on a
grand scale, and ample accommodations
will be provided for all exhibitors and
visitors.

when tho committee laid their grievances a

orders for its repression are absolute and

Dublin, September 5.—There
fierce lighting all night. The police
were driven to their barracks, butrccoiv-
eil reinforcements and chargod the crowd
desperately. They were driven iu the

thrown from a public house at the police,
which led to tho storming of the house
and the capturing of the inmates. An

which the following statement was au
thorized : .
This committee have had their atten
tion called to an anonymous pamphlet
entitled “Concession, or How the Lost
Cause may be-regained and tlie independ
ence of the South secured," now being
circulated over the States as though ema
nating front a Democratic source. Tlie
committee feel authorized to denounce
tho same as a fraud, and the sentiments
therein expressed as antagonistic to the
principles and purposes of the Democratic
party. Farther, this committee are of
the unanimous opinion that the same
originated from a Radical source with
the intention to deceive the people and
prejudice them against the oqly party
which can reform the administration of
the government aud bring about a return
to honesty aud Constitutional law. Signed
Samuel J. Randall, chairman of tlio com
mittee. Messrs. Randall, Slocnm, Swan,
Eldnilge and Jeffries were personally
present and Messrs. Niblock, Young,
