Ralkioh, September 26.—Ths Circuit
Court has been engaged since Saturday
in the trial of the United States against
Amos Owens and about thirty others, for
whipping one Aaron Riggerstaff, some
time in April last, at a place colled Easy
Branch, in Olovilimd connty, on account
of his politics. One pf Riggerstott's own
brothers is among tho defendants. There
is a good deal of conflict in the testimo
ny for prosecution. DiggerstafT swearing
to the identity of men before the Court
who he swore before the first Magistrate’s
Court that ho did not recognize on the
night that the party assaulted him. Tho
testimony of himself and daughter is
greatly at variance. At this hour (7 r. m.)
the examination of witnesses for tho de
fense is progressing.
It is rumored hero that tho United
States District Attorney Starbuek is to
be removed.
District Judge Brooks has beon obliged
to return homo on account of illness, and
Judge Bond now prtsidcs alone.
