Washington, September 28.—One of the
New York delegations withdrew last
night, angry at being allowed only half
M vote, end the convention adjourned
until 9 o’clock thin morning.
The Greeley delegations had a meet
ing early, and invited in the dissatisfied
delegation. The room was too small,
and they adjourned to the City Hull.
Bitter feeling was expressed, but without
action. They adjourned to 11 o’clock.
It seems that these delegations from
New York stand thus: The Fentonites
excluded the Conklingites, and admitted
the Greeleyites with a vote and a
half each, upon which the Greeley
ites withdrew, and the pend
ing question is upon conferring a full
vote upon the Conklingites.
The Committee on Permanent Organi
zation reported A. D. White for Presi
dent Adopted.
White renewed his tlmuks.
G. Hilton Scribner was renominated
for Secretary of Stute by acclamation.
Francis 0. Barlow for Attorney Gciierol,
and Wm. B. Taylor for State Engineer.
There are suits pending in the various
United States ^Courts, for $2,850,000,
taxes principally against distillers and
tobacco manufacturers and their lands
men. All will,be pressed at the fall ses
sions of the Courts.
Washington, Sept. 28.— 1 The British-
American Claims Commission has con
cluded its permanent organization.—
Count Conti is Chairman, and Thos. C.
Cox, of the State Department, Secretary.
The Commission agreed upon rules and
regulations for the conduct of businoss,
regulating tho forms of memorials, pre
scribing the manner of taking testimony
and tho manner of bringing on causes
for a final hearing.
These preliminaries completed, thero
remains nothing for tlio Commission to
do till tho cases arc ready, hence it ad
journed till the 14th of November. In
the meantimo business will be mainly in
the hands of the agents of the respective
governments, in the preparation of proofs,
Ac. So much of the rules as prescribes
the form of memorials and tho manner
of taking testimony, will be published at
once for the information of interested
parties.
Probabilities.
Bising barometer and clear weather
will probably continue, on Friday, in the
Southern and Gulf States. Partially
cloudy and clear weather in the Middle
States. Cloudy and clearing weather in
New England, with westerly winds. The
barometer will probably fall from Wis
consin to Arkansas and westward, with
fresh easterly winds on the upper Jakes,

Montgomery, September 28. — The
death of General Jas. H. Clanton, Chair
man of the Democratic State Executive
Committee, creates the profoundest grief
among all classes. Every business house,
without exception, and many private
houses, are draped in mourning. Fes
toons of crape stretch, along the streets
for more than a mile. The colored peo
ple vie with the whites in testifying their
affection for (Clanton. All the business
houses and engine room are heavily
draped.
An immense meeting of all parlies at
the theatre, passed resolutions and ap
pointed committees to receive and eaoort
his remains. The Mayor and City Coun
cil did likewise. Every heart is bowed
down, and every oouutenonco shaded
among the people of Alabuma, who loved
him. regardless of party.
