We understand from the best authority
in snob matters, that the ratio is thro*
negroes to one white man who bava paid
their city taxis np to this time. White
the whites are holding back, and asking,
and expeoting> redaction of the as
meat* rendered by the offioere, the ne
groes are generally paying up. True, it
is not mach, bat then it is a fact
We also team that on Sunday a circa
l*r was road to the different negro con
gregations, signed by a prominent oulor-
ed man, saying to them that nn]em the;
paid their taxes they wonld notrVote, ant
exhorting them to that effect. Wbethe
the negro who gave them this adrios te a
candidate for office or not is not stated.
However, that is another question. The
negroes are hound to rote, and vote of
ten, and we know of no good reasons
why they should not pay tax os occasion
ally for the privilege.
