Col. T. C. Howard, In his address at
Madison, on Saturday, dwelt apociolly
up- u the value of sboep raising us u
m- ins of fertilizing the land, even
th ugh not a lock of wool should be
dippod nor a pound of mutton snved,
from one year’s end to nnotha r. One of
his grand themes has been the manufac
ture of gniuio at home, and enriching
the land without buying guano or other
commercial fertilizers. He mentioned
the fact, that Franoe, with her small area
of territory, has some thirty millions of
sheep, while Giorgio has about a half
million.
Sheep husbandry is one of the most
profitable, least troublesome and least
expensive callings that any one can pur
sue. , t!

Col. Howard has been employed by
the Managers of the Atlanta Fair, to
travel over a portion of the Stats, and
deliver addresses upon the subject of
Agricultnre, Ac., and right worthily and
efficiently has he discharged his duty.—
He closed bis engagement* at Madison,
on Bstonfay tost, addressing a fine au
dience, with happy effect He was con
gratulated by the - first men of tho place,
in a manner similar to the high encomium
of Dr. Stephenson, of Gainesville, which
the readers of The Sun all recollect
His address at Madison was eminently
practical. He told tho farmers—the men
who toil with their own liands—more
about the way to make good crops, on
any kind of land, and with whatever
seasons may come; and how to moke
money by raising fruits and sheep, than
they ever learned from reading und ob
servation.
Thu Statu Agricultural Society ought
to employ Col. H. by the year, and turn
him loose to lecture to those who labor on
farms.
