ish.—If mem tiers of the Legislature who
are about leaving the city for their homes
wish to take really handsome and ser

thing they can do is to go to Finney's

brought from the North. Finney is
doing some magnificent work, and con
tributing largely to the manufacturing
interests of Atlants.

The State Osaoix.— It is strongly
urged by the Bond Riag and those in
its intercst./th it the credit of the State
mupt not be taniahed.
We would like to know wherein the
eiedit of the Slate is different bum that
of an individual? If It will not injure
the credit of on individual to repudiate
e fraudulent, illegal and unjust claim
upon him, how can the same injure the
Btate'l Mdtt?
It would injure the State the same AS
a* individual, to repudiate aa honest
debt; but to assume the load of frauds
which Kimball, Bullock, Blodgett, Clewa
A Co., and the Ring have tried to fasten
upon us, would surely ruin our credit. It
Would be assuming mote than we oould

Poll Tax nor 1808, 1809 and 1870.—

purpose to servo.

Mavon's Court.—His Honor was in a
higher tribunal yesterday morning,
pleading mercy for one of his wayward
lambs. His motto is: "Butter that nine
ty-nine guilty should go unpunished than
that one innooent should suffer."
In thia emergency, Lowry waa dele
gated. His motto is: "Equity and Jus
tice; devil take tho law."
CHARLES AUSTIN,
the celebrated gorilla-negro, was accused
of being a fooL This 'negro ia an eyo-
sore to Lowry, aud a pest to the city. It
is sn exception to his usual deportment
if he is over found behaving himself.
Lowry—thauks to his ingenuity—gave
him two alternatives—thirty days iu tho
oalabooae, or "transportation for life.
He eagerly seized the latter. 1’iobably
Darwin will gobble him np to establish
his astounding theory of progressive de
velopment, when be Will, doubtless, be
transformed into an angel with "wings
of the sable night ’’ >
CLARENCE HARRINGTON
waa a sable representative of Clarke Uni
versity. In the heat of a quadrille some
rival questioned bia gallantry, when ho
ptoceodod to vindioato his character liy
drawing a knife, and Lowry exalted tho
oity'a credit by drawing $6 from tho
pone of Clarenoe.
WILLIAM WIOTELT,
we have reason to believe, was tho spec-
Ure of Rusty Sniffle. Scarcity of block,
berries hod reduced him to e shadow.—
In thia sod perplexity he resorted to phi
losophising for a livelihood. Hera is a
specimen of his improvisation while lying
on his back in a moist gutter, contem
plating the celestial vault:
**I NW. sgad. I m« th* Devil
▲ •oarin' through tbe elr;
By Jove I be bu old Bollock swingin'
And danglin' by Ike bar.
And Blodgett, he comtesloppl*’ uter—
▲ vulture on tbe wing—
And glutted with hie apoUs from Georgia,
bkededdlee to hie king.”
Lowry admired the spirit moro than
the poetry of that apostrophe, and
charged $5 for poetio lioenae.
MR. IAMBS O’NEAL,
a gcntlemu of African scent,, paid $2
far a pair of old boota ud >10 for
tempting to raoover his money, Lowry
thought it a better investment to buy
new boots, ud—pronounced the bene
diction.
