The problem of a fuel aupply for the
Northern prairie country inHolving itaclf.
Owing to the limited supply, wood has
cost at St. Paul from $10 to $12 per cord
for rnanv years past—an enormous ex
pense when it came to heating a whole
oily. Now, however, tho railroads are
taking a hand in it, and a ton of the best
Ohio coal, from Duluth, costs little or no
more than a cord of wood. As a natu
ral consequence, the whole community
are shedding their ancient gear for con
suming wood, and the rush for coal stoves
is something marvellous to behold. The
zeroes will bo marked dowu in all purts
of the Northwest as soon as black dia
monds I ecome suflioicutly plentiful.—
