What defp’rate frenzy thus with fate to sport!
Seize! feite ! th.y foie resource, the peaceful port. ff
Oh ! don’t you fee, even while you brave the gale,
You drive, a helplcfs wreck, bereft of oar and fail ?

Thy bending fail-yards yield before the blast ;
Thy stays and rigging gone, thy tackling loft.
And by reHftlefs waves at random toll ;
You scarce even now btarup against the storm,
But dread each hour deftrudlion’s direst form:
No bolt unsprung, no fail uarrnt, appears,
Nor even propitious gods to help you in your fear**
What tho’ the matchless oak thy fidcs fupply,*

The bur/ting bolt and crashing beam he hears,
