A PROCLAMATION.
T THEREAS the Governor or other Comman-
YV er chief of this province for the time
being is, by an adlof the General AfTembly, em
powered, with the advice and conlfnt of his Ma
jesty’s Honourable Council, by proclamation, W
lay an embargo upon all ships and veflels in thil
province, or in any port or place thereof where thie
lafety of the province seems to require such a mea
fare: And whereas hostilities are commenced be
tween Great Britain ar.d feverai foreign Hates, and
a body of Rebels have invaded this province, mur
dered many of his Maje Hy’s loyal fubjetfs, and
done infinite damage to the country : I do there
fore, with the advice and confcnt of his Majcfty’s
Honourable Council, issue this my proclamation
hereby laying an embargo on all ships, veflels, and
other craft whatsoever, in the port of Savannah,
(except his MajeftyYfhips, or *ny veffchs
in his service) until 1 shall, by another proclamati
on, iflued with the like advice and confcnt as •
forefaid, remove and take off the said embargo-
And I do hereby require all Officers civil ar.d mi
litary, and all other the King’s liege fubjefts, (but
more efptcially the Officers of his Majesty’s Cus
toms) to be aiding and assisting in carrying th'rs
proclamation into execution, as they will answer
the cor.traiy thereof ht their peril. In testimony
whcieof 1 have htreunto set my hand, and cault
the great feai of the province of Georgia to be
likevvife affixed, this 9th day of November, in the
year of oar Lord 1731, and in the 2zd year ot
