A PROCLAMATION.
TTTHEREAS his M.ijerty, with his usual nuen
* ’ tion to the peace and falirtjf of his fubjefts,
has been moltgraciouily plrafcd to figuify to me,
by his Secretary of State, his loyal intention* and
w ifhes to afford every protection to his fubjefts in
the colonies tn rebellion as fluftbc too weak to rcfiik
the violence of the times, and tvo loyal to
in the meafure# of thole who have avowed and
fapported this unnatural rebellion, that 1 this pro
vince may net only proyea secure asylum to such,
and induce then f> fettle here, hi* Majclly ha*
further been gracicufly pleased to suspend the exe
cution of the inllruclions of the 3d of February,
1774. refitting the fa!e of buds, hut also all

proclamation, inviting all perfon* under the above
Cifcumltances to come ami reside in this his Mnjcf- •
ty's loyal colony, wht c they may unniotdled
follrfw their lawful occupations, and enjoy the
quiet pefleffion of their property, and the valuable
blefiings of that liberty which is the inherent birth
right of every firitilh lubjeft; and that, upon ap
plication to me in Council, they (hall have grants
of laud, a*.a family right, under the usual rcllrk
tions and limitations, with an exemption from
quit rents for ten years from the date of die grant,
and every possible protection and encouragement.

and our rivers are natural barriers, this province
will be a fafe retreat; and as the General Adsmbly
art now convened, there cannot be any doubt of
