that a French national brig, of 16
guns, arrived in the Eastern Branch
this foreqoon immediately from
France, charged, as we are told,

We are told that mr. Pinckney
has forwarded to our government
a number of proportions as the basis
of a commercial treaty between this
country tind ifhfflnT, submitted to
him. by the British government.
They propose placing the United i
States on the footing of the molt fa- 1
vored nation in all commercial I
points, so soon as we chufe to renew j

corps of Volunteer Cavalry com

the company.
The secretary of the navy has
left this city for Baltimore, and the
secretary of war for Portland.

Lead has been difeovered in the
neighborhood of Raleigh (N. (X)
It is used as paint, to make the
roofs of houses fire proof; and is

The National intc lligenrer of the
22d inst. fays—ihe government
schooner Hope, capt. Woodward
failed yefierday. She catries out
two messengers, capt. H.iley to
France, and Mr. Atwater to Eng
land. Capt. Elaley will be landed
at Havre-de-Grace, while Mr. At
water will repair to England. On
the return of capt. Haley from Pa
ris, the will fail ior England,
whence (lie will return to this place
wuh capt. Ilalcy and Mr. Atwater.
When the (lores of the Olagc,
which had been seized at Falmouth,
were ordered to be restored, after
mr. Pinckney had interpoed, it was
difeovtrtd that the following arti
cles had been purloined—viz.

1 he theft was attributed to one

heit rose to 95 degrees, and rose i
