] THEOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT
BEING BUILT AT MERCER
Macon, Jan. 28.—After ninety-two
years of producing young ministers
for the Baptist denomination, the
school of theology of Mercer Uni¬
versity is to have a home of its own.
Work of reconstructing the pres¬
ent gymnasium into a theological
building at a cost of $25,000 will be
gin shortly. Six classrooms and six
officers for professors, affording
J space for 250 ministerial students
| and 150 recitations a week will be
provided,
The structure was made ot possible
when Mrs. E. E. Reynolds, Savan
naft, left $10,000 in her will for this
purpose. B. P. O’Neal, Macon capi¬
talist, gave $5,000 for a theological
library, while Dr. A. H. Newman,
church historian of the faculty, and
Dr. Rufus W. Weaver, Mercer presi¬
dent contributed books from their
libraries so that 10,000 volumes con¬
stitute the seminary library.
The new building will be known
! as “The Charles E. Groover Memorial
I Hall” in honor of Mrs. Reynolds’
first husband. Mercer’s athletic de
| partment will be removed from the
old gymnasium to the war memorial
jgymn to be built by alumni.
