Peach County High School
seniors James Banter and
Rebecca Rhoden have been hon
ored for their exemplary volun
teer service with a President’s
Volunteer Service Award from
Prudential Financial.
The awards, which recognize
Americans of all ages who have
volunteered significant amounts
of their time to serve their com
munities and their country, was
presented by The Prudential
Spirit of Community of Awards
program on behalf of the
President’s Council on Service
and Civic Participation.

Valley. He is the son of Ken
and Mary Jean Banter, and he
plans to attend Asbury College
and major in political science
and pre-law. Banter said.
“Everyone in Fort Valley ben
efited from all the activity to
clean the area around the cem
etery.
Rhoden, 17, earned her award
by serving as a counselor for an
over-night summer camp for
girls. She is the daughter of
Mark and Linda Rhoden, and
she plans to attend Brigham
Young University and major in
nursing. Rhoden said, "This
experience taught me that the
spirit of service brings a hum¬
ble satisfaction, which helps
others besides just me.

gram recognizes young peo
pie across America for out
standing community service
activities. More than 250,000
young people across America
have been considered for these
awards since the program was
established in 1995.
The Gamma Sigma Lambda
Chapter of the Alpha Phi
Fraternity, Incorporated of
Fort Valley recently present¬
ed the Brother of the Year
Award to Dr. Craig Lockhart
of Byron. Dr. Lockhart is
principal at Taylor County
Upper Elementary School in
Butler. He was iniated into
the fraternity at Fort Valley
State University in 1995.
He is currently the Vice
President of he Gamma
Sigma Lambda Chapter of the
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Incorportade. Additionall, he
is the chairman of the Social
Committee, and the editor of
the chapter’s newsletter.
Dr. Lockhart is married to
Dr. Terrie Lockhart, and they
have three children:Danielle,
Leah, and Isaiah. He is a
notive of Butler, Ga.

Three new members were inducted into the membership of the Fort Valley Klwanis
Club last Thursday. They are (left to right) Betty Brantley, Perry Swanson, and JoAnn
Dankel. Explaining club benefits and duties are W.L. Brown, Treasurer, and Dennis
Herbert, Chief Inductor. Club President L.J. Lomax welcomed the new members.
Other new members will be announced soon, Lomax added.

Mrs. Dawn Jerks’ French 3 class at The Westfield School took a field trip to the Peach Palette in Fort
Valley for a crepe cooking demonstration by Chef Paul Harpin of Harpins in Macon. He shared with
the students about different foods from different regions.Chef Harpin became interested in cooking at
age 9 and at 16 he entered into a 4 year apprenticeship in a restaurant in London. He came to Macon
in 1974 and worked in several restaurants until opening Harpin’s restaurant in Payne City.
