The City Court.
Editor New Era: I notice that
something has been said through
your columns about a city court fqr
Paulding county.
The difference In this and what we
have would bo this: The grand jury
has the right to recommend the es
tablishment of this court and fixing
the price or salary the judge Is to re
ceive. This amount need not exceed
(800 or (1000 per annum. The same
solicitor that we hRve acts as solici
tor of the city court and gets his
same fees. The salary of the judge
fixed by the grand jury is the extra
..amount of cost in this kind of court.
Now, will the court when estab
lished give the people of this county
the amount of the salary of the judge
of the court. I believe I can con
vince you that tho city court, when
established, will save the people of
this county treble the amount of the
judge’s salary, the only extra amount
added in the city court establish
ment.
We are in need of this city court:
1st. The cases tried In the court
are all cases except those fixed by the
constitution ot this state to be abso
lute In the superior court, such as
divorce suits and suits fer the recov
ery of land and equitable cases,
which the constitution has given ex
clusive jurisdiction to the superior
court.
2nd. All cases tried In the city
court are carried by rit of error or
bill of exceptions to the appeals
court. This would facilitate matters
and have a case over with before It
could reach the supreme court under
the plans we have now in going
through the superior court.
3rd. The city court sets cases ev
ery three months or quarterly. The
superior courts are in session but
twice each year. So this city court
Idea would save time In this partic
ular, and litigants would not be kept
in court always, because our court
wonld set oftener and we could get
along faster.
4tli. The city court tries all mis
demeanor cases on accusation and
there Is no need of a grand jury to
set several days subpoenaing every
body In the county to attend the
grand Jury as witnesses, to find a
true bill. So quite a saving would
come in Just hete.
6th. The city court would limit
the petit jurors to 24 In number and
in this Way there would be a good
saving to the county. I do not see
why we Bhould not have a city court
to keep Paulding county apace with
all other progressing counties of
Georgia. Citizen.

The Right Man.
The other day an important-
looking gentleman took a seat
beside a quiet man in an Arkan
sas railway carriage and began a
conversation,
'I am going up to Little
Rock, he said, “to get a pardon
for a convicted thief. I’m not
personally acquainted with the
governor, but ho can’t afford to
refuse me.”
“Is the fellow guilty?” asked
tho man.
“Of course he is; but that
makes no difference. His friends
have agreed to givo me $500 if I
get him out, and the thermome
ter is very low when I can’t put
up a good talk. Where are you
traveling?”
“Going to Little Rock.”
“Do you live there?”
“Yes.”
“Perhaps vou might be of some
service to me. Wiiat business
are you in.”
“I am the governor.”
