By Travis M. Chaffin

South Forsyth rolled to its third
region win of the year Friday night,
defeating intra-county rival Forsyth
Central 13-0 in a mercy-rule-shortened
contest at the Bulldogs’ campus.
“We were fortunate,’’ said South
Forsyth head coach Mike Strickland.
"We took advantage of them being a
little wild, a tight strike zone by the
umpire [and] we were able to put some
balls in play.
"It was a team effort, and we had a
lot of guys who chipped in.”
War Eagle hurler Joe White got the
win. allowing just three hits in four
innings pitched, while striking out five.
“He threw the ball well," Strickland
said. “I thought he was very good,
location-wise. He tired out quick, but
we knew that was going to be the case

ASA set
for return
to Lanier
From staff reports
For the second consecutive sea
son, the ASA National Tour will
compete at the action-packed
Lanier National Speedway in
Braselton. The 250-lap showdown
is set for Saturday. May 1, marking
the first of two trips to the state of
Georgia for the series.
Snapping a two-year winless
streak in ASA, Georgia's Mike
Garvey returned to the winner’s
circle at Lanier in April of 2003.
Garvey took the lead from Robbie
Pyle on the 245th of 250 laps,
using the high groove to grab first
place honors.
Pyle held firm on the inside for
second, but, entering Turn 3 on the
248th lap. third-place runner Scott
Lagasse Jr. tapped the rear of
Pyle's CITGO car. Pyle spun and
Lagasse had to brake to avoid him,
but he kept second place.
At the checkers, Garvey fin
ished .534 seconds ahead of
Lagasse with Texas hotshot Casey
Smith rounding out the podium.
Reed Sorenson and Butch Miller
comprised the rest of the top five.

Dixie plans
fund-raising
event for
track worker
From staff reports
Dixie Speedway in Woodstock
is planning a fund-raising for well
known track participant Paul
McAbee. Many fans who attended
last fall’s Monster Truck Nationals
saw McAbee get injured when he
was competing in the Tough
Truck/Car Jumping Contest.
However many fans may not
know that McAbee has not fully
recovered from the back injury
that occurred that night. He is, in
fact, still under doctor’s care fol
lowing surgery and cannot perform
his duties at his automotive/sal
vage business in Woodstock. In
addition, all insurance benefits
have since run out.
“We did kind of a last minute
fund-raiser for Paul during the
final stock car race of the season in
2003, but we really did not have
enough time to let everyone know
about it," said Mike Swims Dixie
Speedway general manager.
“Also, many of the fans that
were at the stock car race were not
in attendance at the Monster Truck
event. We thought this would be
