With a week to go ahead of the
Nov. 8 election, Gov. Brian Kemp
was joined by former Vice President
Mike Pence for a rally in Cumming
on Tuesday.
Kemp’s re-election bus tour
stopped by the Cumming Cigar
Company, located at 230 E. Main
Street, as one of several stops in the
metro Atlanta area on Tuesday, Nov.

During his remarks, Pence said he
had been a supporter of Kemp since
before Republican voters selected
him as the party’s candidate in the
2018 primary.
“When the governor asked if I
would come back and campaign
with him, get back on the bus, I said
yes in a heartbeat because the fact is
I think there is no better governor in
America than Brian Kemp,” Pence
said. “I can honestly say I was for
Brian Kemp before it was cool. I
came in in that primary four years
ago and saw his quality, I sensed his
commitment, I sensed his backbone.
“I knew he would lead Georgia to
unprecedented prosperity and securi
ty, and Brian Kemp has delivered for
all of the people in the Peach State.”
Kemp is facing Democratic chal
lenger Stacey Abrams in a rematch
of the candidates’ 2018 election.
During his remarks, Kemp
touched on his term as governor,
including the state’s response to the
COVID-19 pandemic and Georgia
being the first state to reopen follow
ing lockdowns.
“As a small business owner for 35
years, I understood the pain that they
were feeling. Georgians are not
going to sit in their basement and
lose everything they have got
because of a virus,” Kemp said. “We
gave them the opportunity to make a
decision to go back to work, to open
their businesses, for you all to
patronize those businesses because
we’ve been there before. We know
how that feels, [Georgia First Lady
Marty Kemp] and I.”
Pence also credited Kemp for

Republican candidate Mike Valdes and
Democrat Elaine Padgett are facing off for the
Forsyth County Board of Education District 5 seat
in the 2022 General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Current board member Kristin Morrissey
announced earlier this year that
she would be giving up what was
the District 2 seat before district
lines were redrawn, leaving it open
for an election without an incum
bent.
District 5 covers much of south
Forsyth County where both candi
dates live.
Valdes won the GOP primary in
May over opponent Erin Knight
while Padgett ran unopposed. Now
that they are set to face each other
on Election Day next week, the
Forsyth County News asked both
candidates about their positions on
issues in education facing Forsyth

ATM stolen from south Forsyth bank over weekend
By Kelly Whitmire

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is
investigating the theft of an ATM from a
south Forsyth County bank over the
weekend.
According to an FCSO incident report,
deputies responded to the burglary alarm
at Chase Bank at 3695 Peachtree
Parkway, at the intersection with
McGinnis Ferry Road, at about 6:30 a.m.
on Sunday, Oct. 30 after suspects report
edly used a white Ford F250 and other
tools to steal the machine, which they
were unable to open.
“While en route, dispatch also broad
casted that the ATM machine [had] been
ripped out of the ground,” the responding
officer said in the report. “Upon arrival, I
observed the ATM was missing from its
place, a crowbar was laying on the
ground beside other parts of the ATM
and debris from the ground and the
ATM.”
The machine was found behind a gas
station next to the bank, the officer said.
After reviewing footage from a camera
at the gas station, the officer said two of
the suspects tied a chain to the machine
while the third waited in the truck,
though the trio was unable to open it after
the theft.
“After the chain was hooked to the
ATM, the driver drove the truck causing
the ARM to be dismantled and dragged
it,” the responding officer said. “After
dragging the ATM, the drivers stopped
the truck and stepped out of the truck and
assisted [the other two suspects]. All sus
pects were unsuccessful to gain access
and load the ARM into their truck.”
The officer reported that he spoke with
a security representative with the bank,
who said a similar crime recently hap
pened at a Chase Bank in Norcross.
