Os the late King of RruJJia .
TH E Queen being at one time
very ill, the King, though he
never cohabited with her, always
paid her great refped, and upon this
occasion visited her very constantly.
Talking to her physician one day on
the cauie of her diforJer, he tola his
Majesty it was a nervous fever, at
tended with an occasional delirium:
this last the King doubted
and had frequent conferences with
the physician on the fubjeft. Sitting,
however, one day by the fide of
Her Majesty’s bed, the Queen feeing
him particularly attentive to her,
told him that (he had contracted se
veral debts, and as the was now, in all
probability, going out of the world,
begged of his Majesty, as her dying
request, to difeharge them. To this
the King made no answer, but fud
' deniy riling up, called her attendants,
Bnd charged them to take particular
care of her $ “ for (fays he) I now
find her delirium is coming on very
fad.”

Friday , January 18, 1788.
MR. Joseph Haberfham from the Com
mittee on Finance brought in a report,
which being amended, was agreed to by the
House, and is as follows:
Your Committee recommend as a check
on the Treasurer that the sums of money and
refpeftive denominations of claims against the
state received in the Treasury since the firft
instant, be made up to this day, and the a
mount thereof carried to his debt in the Au
ditor’s books; that in future the Treasurer
be required to give. a certificate to any person
making a payment, which Ihallbe in the fol
lowing words:
“ These are to certify that
44 has paid into the Treasury the sum of
u in for which
“ you are authored to give a receipt.”
Which said receipt (ball be valid against
the state, and the Clerk of the Executive (hall
file the certificate of the Treasurer in his of
fice, and make a fair entry in a book to be
kept for that purpose, and (hall also exhibit a
monthly return of the fame to the Auditor,
who is required to debit the Treasurer with
the amount thereof.

Afiembled, May 8, 1788.
ON a report of the Board of Treasury, to
whom was referred a motion of Mr. Car
rington,
Re/olvedy That Congress proceed to the
eleftion of two Commiflioners, for fettling
the accounts of the five great departments,
to continue iii office one year.
Ordered , That the Commiflioners of Ac
counts for the Quarter-Matter’s, Commifla
ry’s, Hospital, Marine and Cloathing depart
ments, with the approbation of the Board of
Treasury, commence suits in behalf of the
United States, against all persons in any of
the said departments, who (land chargeable
with public monies, and whose accounts (hall *
not be lodged with the proper Commiflioners
within four months, computed from the pre
sent date; and that this order be published
in the several states for the period above
mentioned.
Refolded, That the said Commiflioners be
directed to continue their unremitted atten
tion to the final adjustment of all accounts
which have arileu in the said departments,
and to the recovery of all sums for which
suits ibay be commenced ; and that at the
termination of their commiflion, they depo
sit with the Register of the Treasury aH the
bdbks and papers of their refpeftive offices,
together with a general abftratt of the sums
due from individuals, in order that immedi
ate measures may be adopted for the reco
very of the fame.
Congress proceeded to the cleftion, and the
ballots being taken, Mr. Jonathan Burrall
was elected a Commissioner for fettling the
accounts of the Quarter-Matter's and Com
mifiary’s departments; and Mr. Benjamin
Walker was elected Commissioner for /fettling
th e accounts of the Hospital, Marine and
Cioathicr’f departments.

Guardians of youth, as are delirous offending
young Gentlemen for inftrudion in every
branch of ufeful and polite literature, com
prehending, Englijh grammatically , writings
and the uje of figures ; every branch of the ma
thematics ; the use of the globes \ Latin , Greek ,
and French ; including board, walhing, &c.
on the following terms, viz. Thirty Guineas
per annum for each Student, without distinc
tion of age, or class of education* Punctua
lity is expeded in four quarterly payments.

county of Chatham not having it yet in
their power to carry into effect the trust re
posed in them by the honorable the Legiila
ture ; and being sensible of the utility of the
above design, do recommend to the parents
and guardians of youth, an attention to en
courage an institution, which has for its ob«
