The Minnie Lee Female Minstrels
failed to appear at Music Hall Tues

dy in Covington was glad of it. —
It is said their acting, singing and
dancing is attractive. The women
are said to He a lively set, full of fun
and frolic, some of them being quite
harrdsomo an. l none very homely.—-
The show is warranted to keep awake
old men who chance to drop or slip
in accidentally. As an educator, in
structor and elevator the show can
lay no claim —we learn there is noth
ing of a very “loud" or immoral na
ture in any of the acting, singjog m
dancing. A prejudice, however,
sts against female mito-tr I shows in
most all cultured communities and in
j consequence the Minnie Lee troupe
does not receive a very healthy pat
ronage from pi >us people. We pre
sume that the m ist bewitching and
conspicuous characters in their select
audiences are the “old bald-headed
stags” who sit near the stage and go
into hysterics over the thinly clan
females as they knock off the high
land fling with the ‘-cajjjjJ"'k at
tachment. We get most of tins in
formation from hearsay and do not
feel authorized to vouch for iis truth
or accuracy.

proper educational facilities no coiik
niuiiity can expect to increase in pop
ulation or sustain its prosperity. Good
schools are the foundation of society,
of business and of intelligent success
in all the departments of life. They
work progress and they are absolutely
necessary if a community hopes to
remain intelligent. The history of
all towns which have adequate school
advantages proves that these have
been the greatest factors in bringing
about increased population and with
it increased prosperity. Foi that rea
son every citizen owes it to himself,
to his children and to his city to en
courage and foster every effort made
to secure an improved school system.
If he has the slightest interest in the
progress of his people and their pros
perity he cannot refuse to do what is
plainly an obligation imposed upon
good citizenship.” And yet, on Sat

that the negro vote went almost solid

years. She waj a most excellent lady

promised to those who have kept the
faith. She was the mother of Mrs.
Wm. P. Dealing, and leaves many

departure. Near the hour of noon
on Monday her remains were laid to
rest in the Oxford cemetery where
sleep the husband of her young wo
manhood and other loved ones who
have preceded her to the spirit land.
