Molasses ooutinued in active demand, and pric—

which were kept private. The sales embrace 1,200
hhds., mostly Bxrbadoes and Porto Rico, within tbe
range of our annexed quotations ; also 83 hhds. Cuba
muscovado at 50c., abd 50 hhds. Porto Rico at 70c
and by auctions 60 hhds. Cuba at 62.aC2c>;., and 50

Pao visions—The business in pork was considerable
but the market was dull, heavy sod somewhat irregu
lar and lower. At the afternoon board new mess
closed at $30 50, regular. The sales comprised 15 000
bbls. at $30 43a30 75 for new mess. $29 50a30 for old
mess, and $24 50a$2o for prime ; also 6,000 bbls. new
mess, for delivery in June and July, sellers' and buy
ers’ option, at $29 7oa31. Tbe market for beef con
tinued steady. There waa a fair demand, and sales of
900 bbls. wore made at $16*21 for new plain mess and
$21 50a24 50 for new extra mess. Beef hams were in
demand, but, with a small supply, business was re
stricted, and we have only to report oales of 125alo0
bbls. at $47a48, at which the market was very firm.
Bacon was neglected, and prices entirely nominal in
tho absence of transactions. Cut meats were in very-
good demandat previous figures. Wo note Hales of 75o
pkgs. at 12j;al3J^c. for shoulders, and J7Ral9c. for
hams. The lard market was quiet but unchanged,
lhe sales comprise 800 pkgs., on the spot, at 19a20Bc.
ihe butter market continued quiet and heavy. Prices

will be let to the lowest bidder by Congressional
(not Judicial) Districts, at the State House, on Tues
day, the twenty-ninth day of May next, at twelve
o’clock M. Any sealed bids which may be forwarded
to me by mfiil before that time, for distributing the
books in any Congressional District, will be consid
ered as bids at the letting out of the contracts. Bond
and security will be required for the faithful perlorm-
uneo or the contract within sixty days from the re
ception of the books, and the money will be paid as
soon as the work is done. Those who desire it can
receive the books at the time of the letting, and all
contractors will be required to enter upon the work
within ten days after the date of the contract. Any
one sending a bid by mail must accompany it with
a certificate of the Clerk of the Superior court or
Sheriff of the county in which he resides, stating
that he is a responsible person, reliable and able to

State and Western flour declined I0al5c. The market
was dull and heavy for all grades, though prime quali-
tiea were scarce and price, wore without decided
change. The aalea embrace 5,000 bbls. at onr revised
quotations annexed. Tbe demand for Southern flour
was limited, and prices, particularly for inferior and
ordraary kinds, favored the buyer, in some oases 10c
» bbl. The sales comprise only 450 bbls. Prices for
Canada flour were also, as a rule. In buyer's favor
smne qualities closing hesvy at a reduction of SaiOfc
TOe sales were 300 bbls. Bye flour had more sellers
than buyeft, and prices, though not quotably lower
were very heavy at our quotations. We note soles of
200 bbls. Cora meal was steady with a good inquiry.
