Hon. P. M. Russell offered a resolution to the effect
that the report of the Committee bf physic ians, of
lvblch Dr. Lawton is Chairman, in favor of the prose-
■ ution of the work on the city railroad be referred
hack for a more thorough investigation of the ques
tion whether the excavation ol dirt will be injurious
to the health of the city, upon which, after considera
ble discussion by the mover and others, the yeas and
nays were called, and was passed—yeas 13. nays 7.

ing yesterday sentenced the following persons, who
were found guilty at the present term of the Superior
Court
State vs. John B. Euight,charged with being a common
cheat and swindler—plea, not guilty ; verdict, guilty.
Fined two hundred dollars and costs, and, in default of
payment, to be confined in the county jail for the
space of ninety days.
State vs. Robin Green (colored)—simple larceny-
plea, not guilty; verdict, guilty. Fined one hundred
dollars and costs, and, in default of payment, to he
placed at work on the streets for ninety days.
, State vs. Moses Williams (colored)—larceny from the
house—plea, not guilty; verdict, guilty. Fined two
hundred dollars, and. in default of payment, to be
elaced at work on the streets for six mouths.

Molasses.—In the absence of arivala, and with lim
ited stock in first hinds, the market is maintained 0
last quotations.
Naval Stores are inactive. We quote Spirits of
Turpentine 88092 cts.; common Botin $303 25 ; No,
2 $4@4 60 ; No. 1 $6@7 ; pale $8 25010; Tar $2 250
2 60 for small and large bbla.
Potatoes.—Are in moderate supply and good de
mand, both old and new. We quote the former, in
lots, at $1 5001 60 bushel and latter $506 W bbh
Provisions.—The market though inactive, remains
firm under light receipte and small stocks in hands of
dealers. There was some Inquiry for Bacon Sides
to^tey at 19X eta. freely offered, without seilen. Job
bing prices are firm at 20cte. for aides and 17 cts for
shoulders. Bulk meats are held Arm at 15X- cts for
shoulders and 16X cts- for sides. Mess Pork $35.
Bacon Hams 23 cts for plain bagged, and 26026 eta. for
fine sugar cured do. Lard 22X023 cts. for Western
tierces; 22 cts. for City do., and 24 eta. for Baltimore
refined in kegs.
Butter.—With light receipts and more inquiry
prices are firmer. We quote good to prime Western
yellow 25028 cents., and some small lots choice 30
cts. Franklin street Roll in limited 9upply and sells
resdily at 25 cts. Glades scarce and held 0 27030 cts.

Salt.—The demand from dealers is fair and prices
steady as last quoted, viz : For Liverpool Ground
Alum $2 1002 15 ; Marshall's and Worthingftn's fine
$3 25 ; other brands $3 15 V) sack. Turks Island 60

Sugar.—We continue to report a quiet and heavy
market; the only sales to-day were 22 hhds. Porto

Whiskey is dull. No inquiry for large lots. Small
sales continue to be made at $2 31 lb gallon.

Information Wanted.—C. W. Arthur and David S.
Aithur, of Mississippi, entered the Confederate army
eirly in the war, the first in Mississippi, -and the lat
ter joining a Georgia regiment. C. W. Arthur, a
youth oi eighteen, was for a while in the 10th Kentucky,
and was alterwards transferred to Gen. Forrest’s com-
Baud. He was taken prisoner and canted to Camp
Douglas, from which prison he escaped and was sfter-
axids recaptured. After which, in order to regain his
Lberty, he entered a U. b. regiment to fight the In
Jiaus in Minnesota. From this regiment he deserted,
and has not since been heard of. David S. Arthur
was irom the commencement of the war in General
Beauregard's command, and served through the Vir
ginia and Georgi a campaigns. The mother of these
young men, a destitute widow, having lost 01 her
property, still clinging to the hope that her sons are
aliTe, Is extremely anxious to gain information
mam, and will bo very grateful to those editors who
opy this card, and to any who will furnish her any in-
- filiation ju their possession in regard to the fate
ter boys.

The market for State and Western flour wax inac
tive, and prices for 01 qualities bad a strong declining
tendency, inferior and medium grades closing heavy
0 a reduction of 10015c. per bbl. The s0es were con-
ttned to abont 7,000 bbla, 0 our revised quotations ap
pended. Southern flour was neglected. Prime and
choice brands, however, were not generally offered,
except at full prices, bnt the under grades bad more
sellers than buyers, and the prices obtained generally
indicated ■ declino; the market closing heavy and
almost nominal 0 our quotations, with sales of abont
200 bbls. Canada Soar was unsaleable except at a re
duction from the closing prices of yesterday, which
sellers generally conceded on common qn0itics,
though full prices were in most cases demanded for
good and choice parcels. The sales only reach 300
bbla. Rye flour was firm, with a moderate demand.
S0es 200 bbls. ut $6 7507 50. Com me0 was fairly
active and at full prices, with aalee of 600 bbls. Bran
