The Grand Jury, after finding the following true
bills, were discharged for the term:

State vs. Edward Johnson and Abrfm Williams.—

Mayor's Court.
The foliosing cases were disposed of yesterday
Dennis Calllahan, drunk and lying in the street,
was fined two dollars.
Thomas Sylvia, (white) and Joseph Homes (colored,)
charged with committing a nuisance on the street,
were each fined two dollars.
Henry Garret, (colored.) disorderly and resisting
an officer in the discharge of his duty, was fined ten
dollars.
Wm. Aiken, colored, was charged wit^ improper
conduct, firing a pistol in the street. The pistol hav
ing been fired accidentally, the case was dismissed
the pistol to be retained by the Chief of Police until
tho prisoner furnishes good security for future good
conduct.
A. Dent, colored, charged with being dL>'* , derty in
the streets, wa9 sentenced to bo confined at the bar
racks for ten days. \
Henry Jackson and George Was’^n^ton, two colored
boys, charged with vagrancy, were turned over to the
Freedmen's Bureau to be out. It being stated
to the Mayor that a large* 1 crowd generally follows a
prisoner through tho streets whenips^Sr r-ireat by a
policeman, he has instry^d the pr ice to arrest,
hereafter, all prfWngi whq-Hiay congregate about or
follow a prisoner through the streets when under ar
rest.

Examined.—Two negroes, Charles Parad.se and
•Jame3 Williams, charged with robbing vegetalle gar
dens, were examined before Justice Staley yesterday
morning. There being sufficient evidence against
them, they were turned over to the City Cou t for
trial.
Honors to Savannah Bovs.—At the recent aintial
exercises at 9t. Johns Catholic College, at Fordiam,
New York, degrees of Bachelor of Arts were conf-rred
upon William O’Byrne and Alexander 9. Delltsoy,
both of this city.

Coroner’s Inquest,—Coroner Eden held an imuest
yesterday upon tho body of Nicholas Moore, whe was
accidentally drowned on Sunday afternoon last. The
jury rendered a verdict of death from accidntal
drowning.

Engine, having been sent down to the steamship irgo

sentiments of the meeting, whereupon the chairman
appointed the following committe: Messrs. G. Garey.
P. Magan and D. Regan, of the Oglethorpe; James
A. Barron, A. Talbird and C. Brown, of the Washing
ton, W L. Gne, T. Butler and F. R. Sweat, of the
Metropolitan; C. Hirt. S. E. Eyck and C. A. Smith, of
the Germim; H. Ward, D. Ferguson and G. Parrish,
of the Mechanics.
During the absence of the committee, P M. Russell,
Enq., being loudly called for, addressed the meeting
at sotiie length, reviewing the past hi-tory of the white
fire companies of this city, from the organization of
the first in 1847. The committee, at the close of Mr.
ftusaeU’s speech, returned with the following resolu
tions which were unanimously carried :

Whertras, At a meeting of the Savannah Fire Com
pany, held on the 2d of May, 1836. resolutions were
erabodu d into the by-laws of aforesaid Company,
depriving ex-officio additional iuembere of that
Company of ail rights and privileges.
l9t. While contributing by fines towards tho charter
fund, they are not entitled to any of the benefits,
nor have they a vote in regard to the disposition
of the same.
id. The ex-officio additional members arc allowed
to vote n-r Chief, First and Second Fireman, but
not upon any question appertaining to the wel-
tare of the Savannah Fire Company.
Bd The ex-officio additional members are not al
lowed to vote on the petition of any person for
admission, nor have they a voice in the trial of any
person for dereliction of duty, whether such per
son Is an ex-officio additional or other member.
4th. Ex-officio additional members are compelled to
attend tlie meeting of tbe Savannah Fire Company
and arc treated with contempt there,and have not
even ihe right to speak in their own behalf;
