The Confederate Dead at Marietta.
The ladies of Marietta, Ga., have formed
a Memorial Association for ornamenting the
graves and perpetuating the memories of the
patriotiij'soldihra—martyr* fo tbe kietcaiise—
whose bodies lie in the Confederate Cemetery
at Marietta, and for collecting the bones of
those who fell on the vafioCi'S bbttlc‘ field’s in
its vicinity. They wish that their means for
doing this were at all commensurate with
the admiration they feel for the noble dead
and the cause to which they devoted their-
lives. They regret that while; their, ryishes
are so boundless, their meausnre so limited—
that while tbe Government i-of-'tbe . United
States propose to expend hundreds of thou
sands on the National Cemetery here, .in
beautifying the grodnds find preserving the
memory of National soldiers, that our means
should be so inadequate to do suitable honors
to our own sons, our own brothers aud
fathers.
The Memorial Association therefore ap

and ask them for contributions to assist iu
forwarding to completion so commendable
an enterprise.
