I lent my Ion a book one day;
She brought it back; I laid it by;
’Twa* little either had to an—
She me so strenge, and I ao »by.
But yet me loved indifferent things—
The BpWmting bade, the birds in tone:
And Time stood still and wreathed hie wings
With rosy links from dune to done.
For her, what task to dare or do? .
What peril tempt? Trim harda|dp fogs T
Bnt with her—ah! she never knew
My heart, and what waa hidden there I
, . „Jndqby,-
Seem'd like a maid jw>gi| of Moke,
Bat in the crowd all life and joy
And fall of bhuhfdl impudence-
She married 1—well—a woman needs
A mate, her life and love to share—
And little cares sprang up like weeds.
And play’d around her elbow chair.
And yean roll’d by—bnt I content,
Trimm’d my own lamp, and kept it bright,
Till age's touch my hair besprent
With rays and gleams of stiver light
And then, it chanced, I took the book
Which she perused in days gone by;
And asl read such passion shook
My soul—I needs must cure or cry.
For here and there her love was writ
In old, half-faded pencil signs.
As if she yielded—bit by bit—
Her heart in dots and underlines.'
Ah! silver'd fool I—too lata yon look I
I know It: let me here record
This maxim : Lems no gikl a book
Unless you bras it aptebwakd.

Messrs. Barrett A Co:
I mt induced to give your Hair p epai&tlon a trial,
and can heartily recommend It as unequalled aa a
Chewing, Purifier anil Restorer,—giving to the Hair
alnxntUnt richness, and to the head a cool and
most agreeable sensation, while it is thorough la re
storing the hair to Its natural color.
Very respectfudy, W.Hamlet.

MUrt. J.R BaBKHTACo:
I was hiOared by a friend to make atrial of Bar
rett’s Vegetable Hair Restorative, nnd I am very
tffiflCh pleased with the t lfoct it has had on my hair.
I was nearly hair gray, and Jiow, before using one
bq|tle, my head is freed from dandruff, and my hair
has all tile anpe trance of yoath. I folly believe Nar
yen’s to be the best hair preparation in the world.
