says that “sensualism,” in all its most beast
ly and disgusting forms of licentiousness and
profligacy, is on the rapid increase in all our
New England cities and towns, aud nobody
can blink it out of sight without doing vio
lin re to his knowledge and sincerity.
The London and Northwestern Railway
Company in England have already laid sixty-
three miles of steel rails on their road, and
the work of relaying with steel, instead of
iron, is to be continued. On the Great
Northern Railway of England steel rails hove
also been laid at all the principal stations,
and on the steepest inclines.
A man who has been living in the Indian
country for about twenty years; and who
has just, returned home, say? the most nota-

A forthcoming exhibition of wet nursdB
is announced in the Paris papers. The
points to be considered will be the amount
and quality of the milk, the age and temper
ament of the nurses, the kinds of food used
by them, &c. Experiments will be made to
demonstrate to what degree malt liquors or
spirituous liquors partaken of by the nurse
impregnate the milk; also, whether a pas
sionate or fretful temper of the nurse is con
veyed to the nnrsing child. Tho exhibition
promises to be a very curious, interesting
and instructive affair.
' —The Rev. B. J. Ives, of Auburn, New
.York, having publicly stated that the Presi
dent was drunk while in that place, ex-Gov-
ernor Troop, whose guest Mr. Johnson was,
pronounced the statement to bo false, and
onlla upon the reverend gentleman to retract
it. Several notes are appended from gentle
men who were present on the occasion re
ferred to, and who testify that President
Johnson drank nothing stronger than coffee
