The tort nnmber of thi* ar.nmlcos and ob
scene print has, as it frontiapiece, a picture
representing “Unde Tom and Ida Grand*
daughter.” Unde Tom is represented as a
wepeeteble old African, very black, while
file granddaughter, who reclines on bis knw,
is evidently intended for e very bright mu
latto, in whidi the featnies of the white r
yredommete Her hatf-nnde figure, party
drill in fashionable costume, is displayed
Id the beet advantage, while her long trasses
preserve just enough of the African kink to
give them a lnxurioo* and lively appearance.
The artist has evidently exerted himiwlf to
her as femrinsring as possible in sp-
psaranrs, and the picture is published, no
doubt, to illustrate the beauties of miscegena
tion, which, since abolitionism has per
formed its mission, seems to hare taken poa-
aeerion of the minds of a certain class of
men end women at the North. Speaking of
Harpie’a Weekly, the Augusta Press says :
“We are aware that, if every Southerner
were to refuse to purchase that vile sheet,
which presumptuously style* itself “a Jour
nal of Civilization,” bat has been more pro
perly called the “Journal of Scissorizstion,"
n would not cause it to suspend publication;
bat our people owe it to themselves, to their
sense of honor, religion and sectional pride,
to refuse to contribute to its support. Some
«f the Georgia booksellers refuse to keep it
In their establishments. It would be a good
thing if all should adopt that course.”
Coon Banaucx Dwhuckd.—It is a trite
mying that Bepnblica are ungrateful. It
would seem that the imputation is not leas
applicable to despotic Governments. John
Mitchell, the Buis correspondent of the New
York News, states that Count Bismarck, the
acknowledged hero of the late war, is almost
certainly disgraced. He has not received
the high honors which were declared to
he in store for him, and, the military grade
which has been given him is held as the re
verse of a promotion. So he has been absent
of late from the King's councils, under the
plan of sickness, though it is believed in Ber
lin that he is enjoying excellent health. The
King is jealous. There has been too much
credit given to Bismarck by mankind in gen
eral, and he desires to have all the credit to
himself Seek has been the fate of much of
true merit in public life in all ages of the
world.
A Touchzso Incident.—It is stated in one
of our Texas exchanges that the Legislature
at that State has appropriated $2,000, or so
much of that sum as may be necessary, tor
conveying the remains of the noble hero,
Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston, from New Or
leans to Anstin, for interment in the State
Cemetery. A committee of one from the
Senate and two from the House was ap
pointed to superintend the removal. With
great delicacy of feeling, a resolution was in
troduced directing the Governor to inquire
whether or not Mrs. Johnston wishes to re
tain to Texas from California, and making
an appropriation for that purpose. The
Texas Legislature honors itself in thus honor
ing the memory of the lamented dead, and
providing for the destituteand heart-stricken
family.
Tbs Lite of Fobkest.—We learn from a
Nashville paper that Gen. Thomas Jordan,
formerly of Gen. Beauregard’s staff, and
Col. Jno. P. Pryor, of Memphis, are en
gaged in preparing for publication a life of
Gen. Forrest, and that they will have it
ready for the press in a couple of months.
We concur in the remark of the editor that
the work “will afford a contribution to the
present literature which will be one of its
most interesting features.'' The character of
this distinguished officer shines as brilliant
ly in time of peace as it did in time of
war.

pitching into the Tammany Hall Democracy
lor nominating John Morrissey, the cele

R, .f-nro. Frauds.—'The Republican Com

fogged naturalization papers. That's one
way the Radicals hope to carry the election,
hot the detection will tell terribly upon them,
