Slate in this ber day or trial, I do not believe
he desires to be Governor a second term.
The passage of the homestead bill by the
Senate ibis morning, by such a decided ma
jority, is almost a guarantee that, should it
pass the House, there will be uo difficulty in
passiug it over the Executive veto. The
Governor vetoed a similar bill last session,
aud will doubtless do the same again. If so,
it is a matter of grave doubt whether it can
be passed by a constitutional majority by
tbe House.
The bill exempts 160 acres of land in the
country and $5,000 worth of property in the
town f rom levy and sale, under any execu
tion now. in existence or hereafter to be ob

A committee was appointed, Col. Moore, of Thomiie,

the power of changing the name of the association
without legislation, with instructions to report.
A Committee, of which Jas. A. Miller, of Houston,
is Chairman, was appointed to select officers for the
reorganization of the association, to report onto-mor-

dress the Convention, tendering his thanks, Ac.
The chairman of the committee, Colonel Yancey, to
memorialize the Legislature on the subject of sending
a commissioner to Europe to encourage immigration,
mad«- his report. _ .

sumed to the Legislature, in the Senate, by Colonel
Moore, of Thomas, and in the House by Colonel J. J4.
Jones, of Burke. It will appear in the next Re

The Committee on Newspapers and Publications,
llirougb their chairman, Col. D. M. Brown, of Houv-
tou made their report, which was adopted.
This report admits the great importancc and ilmost
absolute necessitv of having an organ under the con
trol of this body, but owing to the extreme depression
aud poverty of the country, deem it inexpedient at
the pre-cut. They recommend tbe Convention by
resolution to adopt some good newspaper as an organ
